Princic Dario Vino Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon Collio
Description: Princic's wines have the same feel as those of La Stoppa and Valentini: totally unfiltered and minimally sulphured, they taste of the earth, of rock salts and bitter stony fruits, in other words edgily natural. The Cabernet Sauvignon is delightfully fresh and fragrant with the trademark Friuli herbaceous notes of peppermint and menthol backed by some lovely medicinal clove-tinctured wild berry fruit. (6 x 75 cl)

Chateau Talbot 4eme Cru Classe Saint Julien
Description: This impressive estate owes its name to Connetable Talbot, Commander in Chief of the English Army and hero of the Battle of Castillon in 1453. Chateau Talbot is in an ideal location a short distance from the Gironde Estuary, here the vines grow in fine gravelly rises, which alone are capable of producing the region's great wines. Talbot is one of the most ancient estates in the Medoc and has fortunately passed from one competent manager to another over the centuries, and is fully worthy of its classification in 1855 as a great growth. Today, the Cordier family own Talbot ever since the early 1900's and several generations of the family have shown their deep understanding of the importance of quality. This classified growth of Saint-Julien owes its first-rate reputation to the particularly charming character of its wine. Unfailingly consistent, Talbot embodies with elegance all the complexity of its terroir. Firm, well-rounded tannins offer a smoothness ever present over the years, although being highly concentrated, it can be left to age for many years even though it is tempting to drink it young to enjoy the fullness of its fruity aromas and silken finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Chateau du Cedre LE GRAND CEDRE Cahors
Description: Pascal Verhaeghe has been the driving force behind the Cahors 'Quality Charter' and quality oozes from these wines. The estate was originally created by Charles Verhaeghe on vineyard land devastated by the frosts in 1956 in Vire-Sur- Lot. His sons Pascal and Jean-Marc duly studied winemaking, the former in Burgundy and California, the latter in Bordeaux. Ecological viticultural methods eschewing weedkillers and chemical fertilizers, yield reduction by serious pruning, leaf stripping for greater sun exposure and air circulation, harvesting the grapes on the verge of overripeness yield the superb raw material essential to create fabulous wines. In the cellars the Verhaeghes aim for softness, richness and harmony through gentle extraction by long vattings and limited pigeage, malolactic fermentation and sensible use of oak. From vines yielding a mere 15hl/ha this black beauty, a thoroughbred in a fine stable of Cahorses, is aged in 500-litre new oak demi-muids with long lees contact. Great care from the vineyard to the winery has produced a strikingly soft, lush and richly fruited wine. (6 x 75 cl)

Giacomo Borgogno Barolo Classico
Description: Bartolomeo Borgogno founded his winery in 1761; upon his death in 1794 his three sons took over control of the business, though only one, the youngest, Giacomo, persevered. The wine is a judicious blend of Nebbiolo grapes chosen from the finest hillside sites in the commune of Barolo. The winemaking process is a tribute to the great Barolos of the past and uses an extend 'submerged cap' maceration process in order to conjure up the special perfumes and tastes of this ancient tradition. The wine has tremendous substance and is intended to age for many years to arrive at the ultimate goal of balance and harmony. Alcohol, acids and tannin fuse together to form a powerful structure and the bouquet shows great complexity. (6 x 75 cl)

Bressan Pinot Nero Farra d'Isonzo Gorizia Friuli
Description: The Bressan Mastri Vinai winery, located within the town of Mariano del Friuli in the Gorizia province, dates back to the 1600's. Their vineyards are drenched in rich Celtic history in the form of the strategic landscape of Farra d'Isonzo and the winemaking philosophy is founded on family values and a respect for the land and the ancient culture, where limpid horizons seem to capture sensations, colours, scents and flavours most effectively. Where the slopes of the Collio region fade gently and open up on to the Isonzo river valley these vineyards are located on a segment of land shielded to the north by the Julian Alps and open to the hot winds of the Adriatic Sea from the south, where a rare mixture of natural elements have combined to create a unique and inimitable "terroir." With this natural protection extreme climatic conditions are avoided, and moderate weather permits early development of the entire growing cycle by several days with respect to vineyards that are farther from the river, thus granting grapes with excellent levels of maturation. Fulvio Luca Bressan, a classically trained Bordeaux winemaker and descended from a family long dedicated to the vines, cuts no corners when it comes to making wine. Like many in Friuli, he's of the opinion that varietals such as Pinot Nero and Cabernet Sauvignon do not "belong" to the French, since those varietals have been cultivated by their ancestors since the early nineteenth century. He believes that these grapes have not only a home in Friuli, but can reflect in their quality and terroir that long history, and be among the finest in the world. For him, the fruit and its pips dictate readiness for harvest, and wood treatment should always reflect subtly in the finished juice. The Pinot Nero is ruby red, dry and aromatic, a veritable jewel of nuances, including smoked wood, truffle, raspberry and wild blackberry, revealing a bouquet of underbrush and musk when mature. (6 x 75 cl)

Domaine Thibert LES CRAS Pouilly-Fuisse
Description: This small family-owned and run domaine cultivates 24 acres, all in the small village of Fuisse. This village is said to produce the ripest Pouilly Fuisse with the most flavour, due to its situation and soil. It lies on gently undulating hills, thus capturing the sunlight easily and the chalky soil is a mixture of limestone and slate. The emphasis at Domaine Thibert is definitely on quality rather than quantity and they produce solely Pouilly Fuisse from chardonnay grapes. The wine is fermented in a combination of stainless steel and barrique and then aged in a barrel. This Pouilly-Fuisse is a real vin de pierre, dry, stony, taut. This white is a serious proposition from 43-year-old vines with high density planting on limestone marne soil. Vinification and ageing is traditional in foudres , the rest in futs de chene while the wine remains on the lees before bottling. (6 x 75 cl)

Podere Le Bonce LE TRAME Chianti Classico
Description: Giovanna Morganti is quickly becoming recognised as one of the best of the new generation of Tuscan winemakers. Her small estate is only three hectares and her only wine is called 'Le Trame' signifying the wheeling and dealing required to purchase the land. Giovanna's father was a legendary winemaker who believed in Tuscan varietals long before the flying oenologists identified this area as super pay-dirt. She studied oenology herself and went to the work in the mid 1980s for San Felice wines in Castelnuovo Berardenga, near Siena, on a project to plant around 300 traditional Tuscan grape varietals collected from old vineyards. When Giovanna's father gave her a small farm with olive groves, called Le Boncie, she added a vineyard planted with her favourites from the experimental project (6 x 75 cl)
