Description: World famous as a Chianti producer, during the last 25 years Ruffino have diversified their production to become one of Tuscany’s most important ambassadors for quality wine. The Folonari family’s strategy of acquiring and developing “tenimenti” – individual estates in specialised zones – has given their portfolio great variety and personality. Ruffino now owns a total of 1,500 hectares of land including 400 under wine. This diversity reflects the best of both modern and traditional winemaking. The Ruffino flagship has always been the magnificent Riserva Ducale Chianti Classico, which was originally the private reserve of the Duke of Aosta. Description: Noe Apollonio founded the company in 1870 and now Marcello and Massimiliano Apollonio are the fourth generation of the Apollonio family to carry on the family business. Today, great care is taken in the production and vinification of local grape varieties to produce wines of uniquely southern Italian character. Powerful and complex, the wines have flavours of ripe, dark fruits and leather, attractive weight, richness and balanced tannin. The grapes are harvested by hand before going into the winery where, after fermentation, it spends 6 months in French and Russian barrels and 6 month in bottle before being released. This wine is a blend of 80% Negramaro, 10% Malvasia nera di Lecce, and 10% Malvasia nera di Brindisi. It is a Ruby-red colour showing full and rich complex flavours of baked fruits and soft tannin. Botalcura LA PORFIA Grand Reserva Chardonnay Casablanca Valley Chile
Description: Vina Botalcura is the result of the passion of two men. Chilean partner, Juan Fernando Waidele, was seduced by the charm of the town of Botalcura and its environs, and this is where the idea to build a winery started. Juan Fernando then met enologist Philippe Debrus, who had a strong desire to return to a hands-on approach to winemaking, a style he learned in his native France when he was young. The winery is named after the town it is based in, Botalcura, near Talca, about 3 hours south of Santiago, in the coastal mountain range that forms the Maule Valley. Additionally, the word Botalcura means Large Stone in Mapundungun, the language of the Mapuche people of southern Chile. A part of the Vina Botalcura land was christened many years ago with the name La Porfia. This expression alludes to those who have tenacity and perseverance, qualities that fit perfectly with the spirit in which our Grand Reserve wines are made. The wines are aged for 1 year in French and American oak, and are then bottle aged for a further year before they are released from the winery. The grapes are grown in the coastal climate of the Casablanca Valley which features morning fog that burns off by midday, hot afternoons, and soft ocean breezes in the early evening, which produce very cool nights throughout the growing season. The marked difference in daytime and night time temperatures favours the development of the characteristic aromas of the Chardonnay grape. This has produced a medium-deep golden coloured wine with pale yellow highlights. Aromas of white peach are complemented by crisp pink grapefruit and a light tropical component, while soft notes of vanilla, honey and toasted almond can be noted. This grand reserve offers a beautiful expression of the variety grown in the cool Casablanca Valley, with its characteristic white peach and tropical aromas. Fermentation in French oak barrels integrated the notes of vanilla and toast while on the mouth, the rich, buttery texture is brightened by good acidity, resulting in well-balanced, elegant Chardonnay with a long, smooth finish. Chateau Lamargue Chardonnay Vin de Pays d'Oc
Description: Chateau Lamargue is one of the most famous and prestigious cellars in the South of France. On a terrain of 117 hectares, the Chateau Lamargue cellar produces a range of ten wines that are divided into A.O.C Costieres de Nimes and Vins de pays d'Oc wines, which correspond to different types of wine and different types of production. Now owned by Campari this estate has undergone significant investment in the vineyards and a new showcase winery equipped with the most advanced winemaking technology. Additionally, Lamargue’s ageing cellars are now replete with all-new French and American oak barriques. A cold maceration on the skins allows for maximum extraction of the grape’s intense aromatic qualities. This is followed by a fast static decantation in order to obtain a very clean must. A slow fermentation on the lees is conducted in new oak barriques at a temperature of around 14°C over several months. All varietal wines produced by the Domaine Lamargue label are estate-grown and bottled. Yields at the property have been reduced to about 3,500 liters per hectare – which translates into approximately one bottle of wine per vine. Consequently, the varietal wines of Domaine Lamargue are deeply colored, intensely fragrant and rich in concentrated flavours. This Chardonnay has a wonderful pale yellow colour with some brilliant green hints. The nose is powerful and complex revealing the typical chardonnay aromas of hazelnuts and almonds. The palate is round and vivacious, well balanced with a finishing note of vanilla. (6 x 75 cl)
