John Duval PLEXUS Barossa Valley South Australia
Description: A blend dominated by Shiraz with an almost even split of Grenache and Mourvedre. The Shiraz element is from an 80 year old vineyard in Nuniootpa planted in 1925 that gives the wine a lovely weight and depth while the Grenache off 50-60 year old bush vines in Roland Flat, and gives the wine great aromatics along with softness and richness on the palate. Finally, the Mourvedre from the Seppeltsfield region lends the wine a spicy character and good tannic structure. Once in the winery the wine was aged oak barrels for 15 months before release and this has produced a vibrant, deep crimson red-purple coloured wine showing a spicy nose, combining an array of red fruits and subtle oak. A flavoursome compote of red fruits, black fruits and a variety of spices are evident on the palate before giving way to ripe, fine tannins and good concentration that provide structure, length and a seamless balance. (6 x 75 cl)

Terra Burdigala Grand Cru LA SONATE St-Emilion
Description: La Sonate is a wine coming from the best parcels of a charming property situated amongst the pebbly and sandy soils of the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation. Pebbles and sand keep the environment warm, resulting in optimal ripening conditions. The vineyard, which covers 2.5 hectares, is planted with traditional Bordeaux grape varieties: 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc. Only rigorous assessment and regular tasting of the grapes, parcel by parcel, can help decide which is the ideal date to harvest each grape variety. Carefully selected beforehand, the berries then undertake their vinification in wood, thus emphasizing a gentle extraction process which helps produce a balanced, full-bodied, powerful wine. Subtle hints of complexity appear during the maturation in barrel but never betray the soul of the wine. (12 x 75 cl)
