| Description: |
 |
Not to be confused with Jean Lionnet, especially as they are just a few hundred yards apart in the village. Under the new regime of Ludovic Izerabie and his wife Corinne, daughter of Pierre Lionnet, took over winemaking duties in 2002. The domaine consists of six different parcels of old vines but still only totals a meagre two hectares. The youngest vines are thirty five years old, the oldest 100 years old. Vinification is simple and designed to allow the wine, which is bottled unfined and unfiltered, to express its origin. There are no fancy cuvees made currently, just one very good Cornas that will win many friends. A spicy fruit driven nose has well structured tannin and long spicy finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Domaine Les Hautes Cances CUVEE TRADITION Cairanne Cotes du Rhone-Villages
Description: The truly charming Anne-Marie and Jean-Marie Astart are both doctors. However, when Anne-Marie's father decided to retire Jean-Marie swapped patients for vines, and took on the family's 16 hectare estate. With an intelligent and patient approach, and a great willingness to learn, Jean-Marie has, since 1992, become a top winemaker in the area. The estate is producing wines of real concentration, elegance, complexity and depth. These are not juicy-fruit, simple concoctions, they are wines that really engage the palate. (12 x 75 cl)

Domaine Patrick Javillier CUVEE OLIGOCENE Blanc Bourgogne
Description: Based in Meursault Patrick Javillier is one of the top three wine makers in the village. He owns a little Corton-Charlemagne and a minuscule plot of Meursault Charmes, but otherwise the estate consists entirely of 'village' vineyards. However, a village wine from Javillier usually outshines a Premier Cru from most of his neighbours. These are classic Meursaults, and his Bourgogne blancs are very serious, mineral-driven wines. Available in 1.5 Litre Magnum bottles. (6 x 1.5 Litres)
Price: £244.28

Domaine Hubert Lamy 1er Cru DERRIERE CHEZ EDOUARD Blanc St Aubin
Description: The reputation of this domaine is already very high and with Olivier's youthful enthusiasm there is no doubt that these wines will be the benchmark for St. Aubin for many years to come. Additionally, he is in the process of converting the family holding of 16.5 hectares to organic viticulture . Olivier, like so many of his young peers, abhors wood flavour in his wines, but likes the gentle oxidation that fine oak brings to the wine. His solution, in common with many other thinking vignerons, is to switch from the Burgundian 225 litre 'fut' to the 500 litre 'demi muid', which originated in the Rhone valley. This greater mass of wine means that new wood can be employed without too much flavour and tannin being leached out into the wine. An elegant solution, resulting in supremely elegant wines. (12 x 75 cl)

Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Chateauneuf-du-Pape
Description: Domaine de la Vieille Julienn's Jean-Paul Daumen is a totally driven man. He will sacrifice anything for quality in his wines and all his wines, from vin de pays up to his much sought after Chateauneuf's, are labours of love. He uses 225 litre barrels from Bordeaux and this results in wines with an ideal stylistic compromise between modern and traditional. Available in 1.5 Litre Magnum bottles. (6 x 1.5 Litres)

Domaine Jean-Marc Bouley CLOS DE LA CAVE Volnay
Description: The Clos de la Cave vineyard is just behind Bouley's home. The vines are over 35 years old, and the wine offers ripe, succulent dark cherry fruit. This is a fine example of Bouley's style, bringing out the elegance of Volnay's immensely enjoyable fruit. Jean-Marc Bouley's domaine, which has been in his family for three generations, now consists of 12 hectares in Volnay, Pommard and Beaune. The winery is located underneath his house on a steep narrow street in the village of Volnay. The house was originally built by a retired railroad engineer, and the cellars resemble train tunnels. Jean-Marc took over the domaine in 1985 and significantly expanded the holdings, buying choice parcels in Volnay and Pommard. He immediately attained international acclaim for his exciting, dramatic Pinot Noirs. Today, he makes wines from 11 different appellations. Bouley aims for maximum extraction of colour, flavour and aromas to yield wines that are lushly fruity, yet balanced and complex. (12 x 75 cl)

Domaine De Courcel 1er Cru FREMIERS Pommard
Description: Old vines, great plots, low yields, restrained use of new wood make these truly Pommards 'par excellence'. Yves Confuron has been winemaker at Domaine de Courcel since the 1996 vintage, when he immediately stamped his mark on the wines. The quality at this great domaine did drift in the late '80s and early '90s (12 x 75 cl)
