Chateau Pey la Tour Reserve Bordeaux Superieur Haut Medoc
Description: Chateau de la Tour is situated 15km east of Bordeaux, on the higher ground above the village of Salleboeuf. The ruins of the medieval castle once owned by Pope Clement V from which the Chateau takes its name can be found in the grounds. Since 1990 the property has been taken over by Dourthe part of the CVBG Dourthe Kressmann group. Under their ownership a huge amount of investment has taken place in the vineyards and in the cuverie and the legendary Michel Rolland now oversees the winemaking. The vineyards now extend to 104 hectares entirely dedicated to the production of red wines. A blend of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 65% Merlot and sourced from 145ha of vineyard in which the vines are trained 2.2m from the ground in order to obtain optimum ripeness by reducing the shadow on the bunches. Treatment of vineyard is after analysis and only as required. The wine is fermented using modern methods; a pneumatic press is used for crushing, stainless steel vats and temperature control systems are employed when fermenting the individual parcels, and ageing is for 15 to 16 months in new barrels before blending. Mellow nose, with aromas of dense, fleshy fruit. This bordeaux is tasty and rich, with surprising concentration, good purity and depth, low acidity and plump fleshy fruit. Solid mouthfeel and excellent length. (12 x 75 cl)

Chateau Clos Fourtet 1er Grand Cru Classe Saint Emilion
Description: Saint-Emilion's limestone plateau produces some of the appellation's most illustrious wines and Clos Fourtet is enviably situated there. The manor house was built just before the French Revolution and is on the outskirts of the medieval town of Saint-Emilion. Clos Fourtet owes its exclusive reputation to the Rulleau and Carles families. The latter were lords of Figeac. They were the first to grow vines on this barely arable land, which nevertheless has outstanding natural drainage. Clos Fourtet's traditional winemaking methods are supported by the most modern techniques and the ageing in new oak barrels complement all the goodness that nature has bestowed. 80% new barrels. "A very fine effort...the 1995 exhibits a medium-dark plum colour, followed by sweet black cherry and kirsch fruit intertwined with minerals and toasty oak. Tightly-wound on the palate, with medium body, excellent delineation and purity, and a spicy finish...Anticipated maturity, 2004-2018." Parker, 88. (12 x 75 cl)

Pio Cesare Dolcetto d'Alba DOC Piemonte
Description: Our Dolcetto has an intense ruby red colour with glossy purple hues. The bouquet is intense, distinct and delicately grapey, with a hint of raspberry and pepper. The palate is dry, supple and lively, with red currant and blueberry overtones. Our Dolcetto fully expresses the typical characteristics of this variety: fresh, fruity, supple and exciting. It is a wine that is easy to approach and easy to drink, evoking the emotion of ripe grapes and the joy of spring, yet supported by a fully body. The Dolcetto grapes are grown in selected vineyards around the village of Treiso, Monforte d'Alba, Serralunga and Madonna Como. The exact timing of the harvest is extremely important for all young wines, and Dolcetto is no exception. The goal is maximum ripeness, but not over-ripeness, which would cause the grapes to lose their freshness and liveliness. Only the best bunches are selected so as not to mar the fruitiness and delicate youth of the wine. Generally, the harvest occurs in the last week of September. The grapes are soft-pressed, and fermented under strict temperature-controlled conditions for 6 to 8 days. We typically bottle during the first days of March. (6 x 75 cl)
