Santa Rita RESERVA Merlot Maipo Valley Chile
Description: Winemaker's Comments : All vineyards are planted in vertical shoot position in order to obtain good sunlight exposure and airing. The crop is restricted to 7-8 ton/ha so as to get concentrated grapes. During the season, irrigation becomes a critical factor for this variety since it is very sensitive to water stress. The idea is to reduce water availability down to pea size to produce medium size berries and vigor control, then allowing the roots to feed the plant with enough water for good ripening, without any excess, while keeping a small growth of leaves at the tip of the shoots. (12 x 75 cl)

Rosemount Estate Diamond Label Varietal Sangiovese South Australia
Description: The 2003 vintage Rosemount Estate Diamond Varietal Sangiovese was the first bottling of this classic Italian grape and once again this vintages style complements the savoury flavours typical of this varietal. The wine was made to reflect the Tuscany region of Italy, where sangiovese is used to make medium bodied fruity styles known as Chianti. The fruit for this wine was sourced from selected vineyards throughout South Eastern Australia and one third of the parcels were selected to be put through barrel maturation in old oak to enhance depth and complexity. The remainder was fermented with gentle handling techniques of skins and wine to ensure palate softness and integrated tannins. Great care from the vineyard to the winery has produced a deep crimson coloured wine with ruby hues. A complex, intense nose with aromas of stewed plum, bright cherry is further enhanced by notes of spice and meat. A lively palate of sweet, ripe fruit flavours including cherries, plums, and a touch of quince, is complemented by spice notes. Medium bodied, juicy and inviting, the finish is long and stylish. (6 x 75 cl)

Nino Negri INFERNO Mazer Valtellina Superiore Lombardia
Description: Inferno is the smallest of the 4 sub-zones of the DOCG Valtellina Superiore; 68 hectares of vineyards between Poggiridenti and Trevisio, along the slopes of the Retiche Alps, on the right bank of the river Adda, in the province of Sondrio. The name comes from the steep slopes which make it very difficult to work and from the high summer temperature caused by the reflection of the sun on the rocks. A blend of 90% Chiavennasca ; 10% Pignola Valtellinese and Pinto Nero is selected from vineyards in the sub-zone of Inferno, in the commune of Tresivio, at 350-500 metres altitude, the South facing slopes are on loose, sandy soil. The ripe grapes, harvested between the middle of October and early November, are vinified by the traditional red wine method, with 10 days maceration of the skins in the must; the fermentation takes place at 28-30°C. The new wine stays in stainless steel until March; then matures for 12 month in Slavonian oak vats. It spends at least three months in bottle. Vivid ruby colour, with orange tints and a heady bouquet of considerable finesse with hints of plums, mulberries, roses and dried violets, backed by pleasing suggestions of resin and spices. Dry, very savoury, rather tannic flavour with an elegant, lingering aftertaste of toasted hazelnuts. (6 x 75 cl)

Seifried ESTATE Pinot Noir Nelson NZ
Description: Winemakers Note: A new clone of Pinot Noir which has improved the colour and flavour of this variety has been producing in Seifrieds vineyard since 1993. Careful canopy management and leaf removal around the fruit zone allowed the sun to fully ripen the fruit. The grapes were crushed and fermented on their skins. After pressing, the young wine underwent a malolactic fermentation before spending time in new and two year old French and American oak barriques respectively. Tasting Note: Richly coloured, fragrant, warm and mouth filling, this wine has excellent depth of berries and spice, with a slight earthiness which adds complexity to a delicious wine. (12 x 75 cl)
