Devaux GRANDE RESERVE Brut Non Vintage Champagne
Description: Founded in 1846 by the brothers Jules and Auguste Devaux, the Champagne House of Devaux was taken over by Madame Augusta Devaux, one of Champagne's great characters who ran the company with much energy and skill. The positive impact that she made on the company lead it to be renamed Maison Veuve Devaux when she died. Today the House of Veuve A. Devaux is located in the magnificent setting of Domaine de Villeneuve and is part of co-operative that has some 800 growers contributing to the blends, making it the largest Champagne house in the region. Located in the Aube area of the Champagne region, Devaux has stayed true to its roots with the blends having a heavy leaning towards the softer Pinot Noir grape. This is reflected in the composition of the Champagne blend, made from 2/3 Pinot Noir and 1/3 Chardonnay while it exclusively uses only the first pressing of the grapes. This stylish cuvée is then aged for a minimum of 3 years in the cellars before release. This is a well-structured Champagne that has a pale yellow, almost clear colour with fine beade and a classical pinot noir aroma showing notes of flowers. The well balanced palate is both long and lingering, while the finish is elegant and harmonious. Available in half bottles. (12 x 37.5 cl)

Domaine Brusset LES HAUTS DE MONTMIRAIL Gigondas
Description: This 90 hectare estate in the heart of Southern Rhone was founded by André Brusset in 1947. The domaine, based in the ancient village of Cairanne, is now run by his son Daniel, and grandson Laurent, who was a winemaker. Yields are well below that required by law, and the fruit is of the highest quality. The grapes for this wine are 100% hand picked and vigorously selected for ripeness before the picking begins. The grapes are crushed and destalked with no yeast added . The fermentations lasts for 15 days and the cap is punched down twice daily to aid the extraction of colour and tannin. The wine is then aged 60% in vats and 40% in 2 (12 x 75 cl)

Contadi Castaldi Vintage Sparkling Rose Franciacorta
Description: Contadi Castaldi was founded in 1991 by Vittorio Moretti and in 1997 he passed the reins to Mario Falcetti, an expert agronomist and oenologist. In choosing the name, the company wished to keep ties with tradition alive: the Contadi were once the counties into which the lands of the Castaldi were divided – the Castaldi being noblemen who had the right to take the best produce from every harvest. Meanwhile, with its logo and the shape of the bottle, the company wanted to affirm the value of an innovative course of action that demonstrates its desire to offer a contemporary approach to the taste of the Franciacorta. Contadi Castaldi has its headquarters in Adro which, according to historical sources, is an open, light, calm place which 'burns' with life force. Adro is one of 19 municipalities in Franciacorta authorised by the Consortium for the cultivation and production of grapes for producing Franciacorta and Terre di Franciacorta wines. This wine is produced from a 60 hectares estate planted with 80% white grapes including Chardonnay, Pinot bianco as well as 20% red grapes such as Pinot Nero , Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Merlot, Nebbiolo and Barbera. Here the harvest is done manually with the grapes transferred to small boxes. Next, manual selection of grapes on special sorting table occurs while the objective of using very low technological impact in winemaking is evident through the moderate use of sulphur dioxide and use of the force of gravity to load presses. Energetic notes in this Franciacorta are evident as this wine draws its character and colour from the virtues of the delicate grape skins of the Pinot Nero grape. Herbaceous, balsamic and refreshing notes reveal the audacious use of monovarietal Pinot Nero that delivers concentrated freshness and aroma. The finish unveils a pleasantly spicy undertone, with definite hints of chocolate and tobacco, almost evoking the mysterious energy of the maple woods that flourish on the high ground of Adro, where this Rose originates.

Saltram of Barossa SALTRAM No 1 Shiraz Barossa Valley
Description: Saltram No. 1 is rich, velvet red in colour with deep purple hues. Blackcurrant, dark cherry, plum, chocolate and spice aromas on the nose are given further complexity by mocha coffee and oak notes. The powerful, weighty palate is complex, rich and elegant, displaying rich, spicy varietal fruit, subtle oak and coffee characters and wonderful savoury flavours. This intense yet elegant wine has firm, grainy tannins and a long, rich finish. Aromas of blackcurrant, plum, dark cherry, spice, chocolate and liquorice with a subtle coffee bean, cedar oak influence develop into an intense yet balanced palate bursting with ripe, spicy varietal fruit. The palate is given complexity by subtle oak coffee bean characters and wonderful savoury flavours. The powerful, weighty palate has firm, grainy tannins and a long, rich finish. Viticulture Sourced from mature, low yielding vines, selected from both own and grower vineyards on the valley floor, this wine is a classic statement of intensity and finesse. The 2002 vintage was exceptional, one of the coolest on record in the Barossa. These cool, dry conditions allowed the fruit to slowly develop rich ripe fruit flavours, elegant tannins and good natural acidity. Winemaking After careful fruit selection and harvesting, the fruit was crushed and the must transferred into traditional style open fermenters. To extract all of the colour, flavour, and tannins from the skins the juice underwent an extended maceration. After the fermentation was complete the wine was pressed and racked into new and seasoned American and French oak barrels to mature. After 22 months maturation the winemaker carefully assessed each barrel before blending and bottling. Cellaring This wine displays approachable fruit intensity and richness now, and will develop complexity and aged characters if carefully cellared over time. (6 x 75 cl)
