Domaine Jean-Louis Chavy LES FOLATIERES 1er Cru Puligny-Montrachet
Description: The Domaine Gérard Chavy owns 27 acres of vineyards, and nearly all are in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, as well as a few rows of vines in neighboring Meursault. The Domaine Gérard Chavy, now run by Gérard's sons Jean-Louis and Alain, with this substantial acreage in the appellation provides the rare opportunity of offering reasonable quantities of domaine-bottled Puligny-Montrachet. These wines are styled to reflect the terrior of the vineyard with vines on average 25 year old, the wine is 70% barrel fermented and 30% tank fermented. Smoky, round, full and buttery style the wine lover can tell from aromas alone that Gerard Chavy wines are classic white Burgundies. Without the overly forward candy/fruit character of New World wines, these Chardonnays are made to drink with dinner. The 2002 vintage is a classic steely Puligny, with only a little oak to influence the flavour as the fruit comes to the fore in this wine. (6 x 75 cl)

Andrea Oberto FABIO Rosso Langhe DOC
Description: Andrea Oberto owns 8 hectares of perfectly exposed vineyards in the commune of La Morra of which 7 hectares of vineyards are planted with Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto vines. Oberto has adopted organic farming methods with hard pruning in winter and bunch thinning in the summer to reduce yields to no more than 5 or 6 bunches per vine in good vintages and 3 or 4 bunches in less good years. This equals just over 1 bottle of wine per plant in a good vintage. Oberto’s adoption of avant garde winemaking techniques and maturation exclusively in French oak, for 2 years, means that all his wines have great elegance, suppleness and precision of fruit flavours. A deep red coloured wine, showing ripe fruit on the nose with toasty oak overtones. The Complex, spicy palate with flavours of cinnamon and nutmeg are supported by sweet, plummy fruit. An elegant, ripe finish with sweet oak notes and controlled tannins make this a very fine wine. (12 x 75 cl)

Joseph Phelps Vineyards BACKUS Napa Valley California
Description: Founded in 1972, Joseph Phelps Vineyards is an independent, estate-based winery located outside of St. Helena. Perched on a knoll in bucolic Spring Valley, the graceful redwood winery overlooks vineyard-studded hills, the town of St. Helena and the Mayacamas Mountains to the west. Long known for his innovative spirit and passion for quality, Joe Phelps pioneered a number of 'firsts' in the early years of the winery. The 1974 Insignia — released in the spring of 1978 — was the first Bordeaux-style blend produced in California under a proprietary label. The release of the 1974 Syrah in 1977 sparked industry-wide interest in a remarkable French varietal whose plantings in California had disappeared and been virtually forgotten for over half a century. And in 1990, after years of research, a whole | |
