Chateau Loudenne Cru Bourgeois Superieur Medoc
Description: Chateau Loudenne, situated on the banks of the Gironde estuary, is one of the most delightful sites in the Medoc, the charm of which did not escape the appreciative eye of its owners, Marie-Claude and Jean-Paul Lafragette. Chateau Loudenne stretches over a superb estate of 132 hectares, with 48 hectares of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and 12 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Since the Lafragette family bought Loudenne in March 2000, work on the vines has been conducted with the specific aim of enhancing the individual character of Loudenne's terroir and therefore its wines. Accordingly, right from the pruning season though to harvesting, every task is carried out with the utmost care to produce better wines, even down to the job of thinning out the harvest and the foliage by hand in September to help the ripening process. Once in the winery the grapes are vinified in stainless steel or lined concrete vats and ageing for 16 months in the cask takes place, of which 30% of the casks are renewed every year. Great care is again taken when choosing different coopers. Here they are adapted to each specific wine enabling Loudenne to obtain complex more telling aromas. Commitment to quality is a constant at this winery and since 2000 malactic fermentation is carried out in all the new casks, here the aromas imparted by the vats are better accepted by the wine as well as this the age-old technique makes the tannins silky and the wines rounder. This Merlot is the second wine of Chateau Loudenne and has a lovely fruit driven style with a smooth lengthy finish. (12 x 75 cl)
