Vina Carmen Carmenere Rapel Valley Chile
Description: Winemaker Comments: A nice deep ruby colour, starts with intense aromas of ripe red fruits, rhubarb, chocolate and pepper. Soft and velvety tannins in the mouth; jammy ripe red fruits, a hint of mint and spicy flavours. A nice balance, rich and lingering finish. Harvest and Production: The grapes were hand harvested from Rapel Valley known for its alluvial soils and summer high temperature days and fresh nights, ideal for the Carmenère. The bunches were crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks at 28ºC with a total maceration period of 15 days. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally in stainless steel tanks. After this the wine was blended. 20% of the wine was aged in French and American barrels for a period of 6 months. Then, the wine blended and bottled. (12 x 75 cl)

Domaine Albert Belle Hermitage Rouge
Description: This family estate in the Northern Rhone has forged an enviable reputation for supple, generous wines. Previously a member of the local co-op the Belle family have rapidly made a name for themselves as a producer to watch. The domaine extends to 19 hectares in 4 communes and two appellations, Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage. The red wines are produced traditionally using whole bunches of grapes and extended maceration. They are then matured in oak for between 12 and 18 months with 20 to 25% new barrels each year. A truly magnificent wine that shows just how great syrah can be. Immensely concentrated with deep, brooding, almost opaque fruit. Well balanced, the new oak never dominating the finely textured fruit. Complex, very serious and powerful and with a finish that, fortunately, lingers on. Limited availability. (12 x 75 cl)

Catherine Marshall Wines MYRIAD Pinot Noir Stellenbosch
Description: In 1996, Cathy Marshall decided to have a braai for her friends. The party turned into something of a breakthrough evening when they decided to crush some grapes that she had bought, barefooted in her garage. Nine months later the original party gathered again to bottle the wine by hand. Barefoot is now known as BMC wines, and by 1998 Cathy was handling 16 tonnes of grapes rather than the original one tonne. However, the annual harvest ritual of the 'footstomp bash' continues, but the wine is now made in the 'high tech' wineries of Amani and Yonder Hill. The company does not own vineyards, but sources the grapes from some of the best vineyards to make top quality wines. This is in the tradition of the French 'negociants' -- with a South African flavour. BMC wines are terrific to drink and the bottles provide a classic backdrop to any table with the disctinctive and stylish label, a unique collaboration with artist Hannetjie de Clercq. The Pinot and Merlot grapes were selected from a warm vineyard site located in Agter-Paarl. The Grapes were allowed to ripen to shrivel stage and a total of 1.17 tons were selectively hand picked for use in this wine. The Fruit was very concentrated as Cooler temperatures allowed for more even ripening. Tightly woven flavours of Pinot cherry, lavender and red berries mingle with ripe Merlot black plums. The Sweetness is restrained with cognac warmth lingering in the background, while the lively tensioned structure integrates with the velvety complexity throughout.. (12 x 37.5 cl)
