Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino
Description: This wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, the same variety used for Brunello di Montalcino, which are harvested by hand in ten year-old vineyards on the property. Part of the wine ages for 12 months in medium-sized Allier oak barrels, and the rest in barriques. The wine completes its maturation period in bottles for 6-9 months before it is sold. This wine is ruby red in color with a pleasantly intense bouquet of wild berry fruits. The palate is velvety and lingering with excellent structure and smooth tannins. (6 x 75 cl)

Omaka Springs Estate Riesling Marlborough NZ
Description: Omaka Springs Estates is a family business owned by Geoff and Robina Jensen. The vineyards consist of 178 acres that lie across the Omaka Valley in the heart of Marlborough’s wine growing area. The first vines were planted in 1989 and further developed when Omaka Springs Estates were established in 1992. The winemaker Ian Marchant has been with Omaka Springs since 1997 and this Sauvignon Blanc is grown in a perfect combination of warm sunny days and cool nights to produce the highest quality grapes for use in their wines. The grapes were machine harvested on the morning in early May when they were at full ripe maturity. After careful extraction the juice was settled and racked off the lees before fermenting at 12°C. Fermentation was stopped to achieve the desired residual sugar level and the wine held in temperature controlled conditions until final filtering just two months later. Great care from the vineyard to the winery has produced pale straw coloured wine with green tints. On the nose are lemon and lime-evoking aromas that develop on the palate of this zesty wine.

Hazendal Estate Wooded Chenin Blanc Stellenbosch RSA
Description: Spectacularly positioned in the winelands between Stellenbosch and Kuils river, Hazendal Estate has a history dating back over three hundred years. The original farm was given to Christoffel Haasenwinkel, a German settler, in 1699 and it was the subsequent owner Joost van As, who in 1764, built the manor house which now stands on the site. In 1831 it was bought by Izaak Bosman whose family owned it until 1994 when it was purchased by the current owner Dr Mark Voloshin. Under Dr Voloshin's ownership there has been considerable investment in both the natural and human resources of the estate. An all woman team runs Hazendal Estate: General Manager Corinne Mans oversees the whole operation and she is supported by Ronell Wiid in the cellar, who last year won the prestigious Diners Club Winemaker of the Year award for the Shiraz/Cabernet 1999. "...arresting sweet-sour effect in persistent pineapple finish.", according to John Platter in 'South African Wines, 2000'. (12 x 75 cl)
