Botalcura LA PORFIA Grand Reserva Chardonnay Casablanca Valley Chile
Description: Vina Botalcura is the result of the passion of two men. Chilean partner, Juan Fernando Waidele, was seduced by the charm of the town of Botalcura and its environs, and this is where the idea to build a winery started. Juan Fernando then met enologist Philippe Debrus, who had a strong desire to return to a hands-on approach to winemaking, a style he learned in his native France when he was young. The winery is named after the town it is based in, Botalcura, near Talca, about 3 hours south of Santiago, in the coastal mountain range that forms the Maule Valley. Additionally, the word Botalcura means Large Stone in Mapundungun, the language of the Mapuche people of southern Chile. A part of the Vina Botalcura land was christened many years ago with the name La Porfia. This expression alludes to those who have tenacity and perseverance, qualities that fit perfectly with the spirit in which our Grand Reserve wines are made. The wines are aged for 1 year in French and American oak, and are then bottle aged for a further year before they are released from the winery. The grapes are grown in the coastal climate of the Casablanca Valley which features morning fog that burns off by midday, hot afternoons, and soft ocean breezes in the early evening, which produce very cool nights throughout the growing season. The marked difference in daytime and night time temperatures favours the development of the characteristic aromas of the Chardonnay grape. This has produced a medium-deep golden coloured wine with pale yellow highlights. Aromas of white peach are complemented by crisp pink grapefruit and a light tropical component, while soft notes of vanilla, honey and toasted almond can be noted. This grand reserve offers a beautiful expression of the variety grown in the cool Casablanca Valley, with its characteristic white peach and tropical aromas. Fermentation in French oak barrels integrated the notes of vanilla and toast while on the mouth, the rich, buttery texture is brightened by good acidity, resulting in well-balanced, elegant Chardonnay with a long, smooth finish. Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville California
Description: At 90 years of age, Robert Mondavi remains the global emissary for these wine. His vision was to create wines in California that belong in the company of the great wines of the world. Robert Mondavi is known for producing hand-crafted wines of distinct style. Representing the best of California wine growing regions, including the legendary Napa Valley, each of the wines offers unique qualities and characteristics. Robert Mondavi Winery is located in the heart of Napa Valley, California. The first major winery built in Napa Valley in the post-Prohibition era, Robert Mondavi Winery helped establish the foundation for the modern-day California wine business. Its mission-style architecture, with the expansive archway and bell tower designed by Cliff May, has become an enduring landmark that evokes California's winemaking history. All of the grapes for this wine were grown in the world-renowned Oakville region surrounding our winery. Designated an American Viticultural Area in 1993, Oakville is distinguished by an alluvial fan extending from the base of the Mayacamas Mountains that form the valley's western border. The Oakville bench, which lies against the hills, has well-drained soils that allow deep rooting and the development of complex flavours in the grapes. Mondavi selected all Oakville bench vineyards for this wine, including 82% from Robert Mondavi's historic To Kalon Vineyard. Mondavihand-harvested the grapes into 40-lb. boxes during the cool morning hours. The clusters were then hand-sorted on tables in the To Kalon fermentation cellar for optimum quality. The grapes were destemmed and lightly crushed directly into a new 17-ton oak fermentation tank. The must was fermented with a combination of native and cultured yeast for layers of complexity, and follwed this with 24.5 days of skin contact to soften tannins. After the free-run wine was drained off the pomace, the drop-gate was opened to gravity-convey the pomace to a gentle basket press. The wine was then gravity-fed to barrels to undergo malolactic fermentation and ageing. To achieve natural clarity, the wine was racked three times during 16 months of ageing in traditional French oak chateau barrels . The wine was then bottled without fining or filtration. The ripe, sweet fruit character of the Cabernet Sauvignon exudes creme de cassis and juicy blackberry character. Complex nuances of spices, vanilla, minerals and cedar weave through the lush fruit flavours culminating in a long finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Giovanni Dri IL RONCAT Ramandolo DOC Fruili

In 1976 an earthquake destroyed the winery and Dri was forced to start again. Thankfully, a brilliant vintage that year persuaded him that it was all worth while. Collavini TURIAN Ribolla Gialla DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli
Description: In 1896 Eugenio Collavini, the founder, first supplied to the best Udinese's families his wines without ever imagining that a century later they would reach the world over. The Ribolla grape is a variety that's definitely a native of Friuli, in whose dialect it's known as Ribuele. It's grown almost exclusively on the hill faces running from Cividale through the Collio to Gorizia. Additionally, there are mentions of the cultivation of this variety going back to 1300. This is a straw coloured wine with greenish reflections, while it is distinctive, dry, lemony, with medium strength. The pleasant, soft nose complements the soft, floreal aromas from forest plants such as acacia, oak and birch, and clear lemony notes. Soft, delicate, dry flavour with a thin hint of acid this is a wine to savour. (6 x 75 cl)

Hunter's Riesling Marlborough NZ
Description: In the last 20 years the province of Marlborough has moved from virtual obscurity to become New Zealand's largest and best-known wine region with a reputation for producing some of the world's finest sauvignon blanc. This huge potential was something that was recognised back in 1983 by Jane Hunter and her late husband Ernie when they founded their first fledgling winery in the picturesque Wairau Valley. Since those early years Jane has been owner, viticulturist and managing director of what has become one of New Zealand's most established wineries, Hunter's Wines. Under her expertise, the original vineyard area has increased by 2.5 times its original size and the company's annual output has grown to around 60,000 cases of wine, nearly half of which is exported. This Marlborough Riesling is a well balanced wine with a pale lemon green colour, showing lime and floral aromas. The wine has mineral notes and there are limes and white nectarine flavours on the palate as well as crisp acids and good palate weight. This is a full flavoured wine with an enjoyable finish. (12 x 75 cl)
