Hazendal Estate Stellenbosch Shiraz/Cabernet RSA
Description: Spectacularly positioned in the winelands between Stellenbosch and Kuils river, Hazendal Estate has a history dating back over three hundred years. The original farm was given to Christoffel Haasenwinkel, a German settler, in 1699 and it was the subsequent owner Joost van As, who in 1764, built the manor house which now stands on the site. In 1831 it was bought by Izaak Bosman whose family owned it until 1994 when it was purchased by the current owner Dr Mark Voloshin. Under Dr Voloshin's ownership there has been considerable investment in both the natural and human resources of the estate. An all woman team runs Hazendal Estate: General Manager Corinne Mans oversees the whole operation and she is supported by Ronell Wiid in the cellar, who last year won the prestigious Diners Club Winemaker of the Year award for the Shiraz/Cabernet 1999. Chateau Cissac Cru Bourgeois Haut Medoc
Description: The colour is marked by a deep purple red. The bouquet comes to the force once the wine has had time to breathe a little. A little elderberry, blackcurrants and other soft fruits are complemented by aromas of toast and a touch of tobacco to give a complex bouquet. With a little more air aromas of mild spices and some mineral notes develop. On the palate the wine is elegant and has a long, lingering finish. The mineral and fruity character of the wine balances the powerful, ripe tannins. This is definitely a Cru Bourgeois with potential and a long future ahead and is only just starting to open out. Sherwood Estate CLEARWATER VINEYARDS Sauvignon Blanc Waipara NZ
Description: Sherwood Estate is very much a family business, with Dayne and Jill Sherwood owning and operating it since the late 1980's. The winery is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, while they have four vineyards also owned by Sherwood Estate in the famed Marlborough Region, at the top of the South Island. Based on nearly twenty years of growing grapes and making wine, Sherwood Estate now specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Sherwood Estate produce three ranges of wines the Clearwater Range, the Sherwood Estate Range and the the Stratum Range. The Clearwater range represents the very best varietal single vineyard wines from Sherwood Estate's own vineyards in Waipara. This is very much a hand crafted range both in the vineyards and winery, here meticulous care is taken to ensure that the wine produced is of the highest quality and reflects each vineyard's unique characteristics or 'terroir'. This is a stylish, complex Sauvignon with intense, grassy, tropical notes on the nose followed by a rich palate of crisp, tangy fruit.
