Domaine Cuilleron LES CHAILLETS Vielle Vignes Condrieu
Description: It has taken Yves Cuilleron 10 years to establish himself as one of the most dynamic young winegrowers in the Northern Rhone. His bold wines move and impress aficionados by their deep combination of terroir and style, a style which combines concentration and elegance, the two words which best define a great wine. The Condrieu appellation is only 100 hectares in total of which Yves owns 8. This makes him a major player in an appellation which has 40 vineyard owners and in which only 20 producers make their own wine. At the turn of the century a handful of vines growers entirely renovated this vineyard. The wines produced from the viognier grape variety, are exclusively white and are renowned for their bouquet of violets and apricots. As with all Cuillerons Condrieus the grapes for Les Chaillets are all harvested by hand but from selected older areas. All the wine is fermented in oak, 60% of which is new. Vinified dry from grapes harvested in September and October, Cuilleron vinifies his various vineyard parcels separately, then puts together his wines in the weeks before the bottling. Wonderfully opulent and perfumed on the nose with dollops of honey allied to blossom and spicy complexity. The palate is rich and full again with great acidity, giving the wine exceptional balance. W & J Graham's 2000 Vintage Port
Description: After the harvest, wines of Vintage potential are put into oak barrels called 'pipes'. Some eighteen months later a careful and painstaking series of tastings is held to judge exactly which wines of different vineyards merit inclusion in the final blend. If the ideal blend is achieved, the wine is then bottled without any filtration whatsoever approximately 24 months after the original harvest. It was immediately evident during the vintage that the wines would be very intense and fruity. This has been borne out by their development and Graham's 1994 Vintage is rich, deep coloured and packed with fruit. It is distinctly reminiscent of the Graham's 1970. Domaine Lucien Albrecht RESERVE DU DOMAINE Riesling Alsace
Description: Domaine Albrecht is located in Orschwihr, Southern Alsace, and its origins go back to 1772. Today, Lucien Albrecht has 65 acres of vines and is rated amongst the most important producers in Alsace. The vineyards are along slopes facing south to south east and benefit from a prime exposure on the foothills of the Vosges Mountains, thus ensuring early ripening for the grapes. The wine making techniques used at Lucien Albrecht make full use of modern equipment in a very modern winery. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks and is slow and temperature controlled in order to obtain the finest fruit flavours. Deep yellow in colour with youthful flashes of green and touches of gold this 100% Riesling has a wonderfully intense nose of citrus fruit and blossom. On the palate it is concentrated long and steely with wonderful balance. (6 x 75 cl)
