The grapes for Kaapse Vonkel are picked early in the harvest to retain the natural acidity and low pH levels. Whole bunch pressing yields the most delicate flavours for the cuvee. The pale straw colour shows that the Kaapse Vonkel 1995 is made from the most gently pressed grapes and very little extraction from the skin occurs. The colour is still fresh and youthful and the nose shows ripe red grape fruit flavours and a yeasty bouquet of freshly baked bread. The mousse is extremely fine and creamy on the palate and it helps to bring out the delicious biscuity flavours. Three years of development has added depth and complexity which will proceed over time. The style is full with firm structure and weight on the palate and a clean Brut finish. www.simonsig.co.za (4 x 1.5 Litres)

Araldica MADONNINA Gavi DOCG Piemonte
Description: A clean and lively Italian white with some almond and floral notes on the nose and a nicely rounded palate with a hint of lemon. Araldica successfully combine a well-run, productive co-operative, at the same time offering that small, family run company feeling. They now have 300 members tending to 900 hectares of vineyards. Their Asti production, Araldica and Alasia range are produced at the companies headquarters at Castelvero, home of the old cellars and a new winery, operating since September 2000. This facility is complimented by the winery and cellars on the hill at Il Cacsinone, restored to its former glory in 2004. Most of the grapes for the Poderi Alasia range come from the surrounding superbly-sited, steep-sloping vineyards. Araldica's Managing Director, eonologist Claudio Manera, is adamant that investment in the vineyards, as much as in other areas of the business, is vital to maintain the quality of the product. He believes that effective management can preserve that most important concern for the customer (12 x 75 cl)

Chateau Lamargue Rouge Costieres de Nimes
Description: Chateau Lamargue is one of the most famous and prestigious cellars in the South of France. On a terrain of 117 hectares, the Chateau Lamargue cellar produces a range of ten wines that are divided into A.O.C Costieres de Nimes and Vins de pays d'Oc wines, which correspond to different types of wine and different types of production. Now owned by Campari this estate has undergone significant investment in the vineyards and a new showcase winery equipped with the most advanced winemaking technology. Additionally, Lamargue’s ageing cellars are now replete with all-new French and American oak barriques. Fermentation at a temperature of 28°-30°C lasts around one week. Highly concentrated, the wine remains in tanks for a brief period after which it is transferred into barriques for six months prior to bottling and release. Chateau Latour LES FORTS de LATOUR Pauillac OWC
Description: This second wine of Chateau Latour uses the grapes from the young vines of the Grand Enclos, which are less than 12 years old, and from the grapes grown on three plots situated outside the Grand Enclos. Ageing occurs, 50% in new barrels and 50% one vintage old barrels, for 18 months to produce a blend of 70% Cabernet, 30% Merlot grapes, the exact proportion of grape varieties will vary slightly from year to year depending on the quantity of demoted Grand Vin. The growing season started normally at the beginning of April, with a good show of flowers during a sunny period interspersed with a few storms. Summer was very dry and the grapes developed fast. At the end of July, green harvest was carried out. First signs of ripening were observed on 1 August. August and September were sunny with very little rain. At the end of September the grapes were very healthy and small, with very concentrated juices. Vintage started on 28 September in brilliant sunshine, which remained until the end on 10 October. The grapes were perfectly healthy and the musts were extraordinarily concentrated. One of Bordeaux's most concentrated rich and full-bodied wines. The wine is dark a ruby colour and has a unique bouquet of fresh walnuts, leather, and black currants. Available in the Original wooden case. (12 x 75 cl)

Houghton JACK MANN Cabernet Western Australia
Description: Classical Cabernet Sauvignon parcels were selected from Frankland River and Mt Barker vineyards. Gravely loam soils and 30 year old vines produced fruit of intensity and power. Minimal handling of the wine in every aspect of its development has enhanced the fruit complexity. Maturation for 20 months in 70% new and 30% 2 year old French oak was then followed by bottle maturation prior to release. Houghton Jack Mann is a fragrant and lifted wine with cassis, mulberry and bay leaf aromas, given further complexity by spicy oak, cinnamon and nutmeg characters. The qualities found in the bouquet are reflected on a finely structured and well balanced palate, while a soft velvety texture and sweet tannins complete this distinguished wine. Extended careful cellaring for 10-15 years will see this wine develop in complexity, further enhancing the fruit, oak and tannin. (6 x 75 cl)
