Vina Izadi Rioja CRIANZA Rioja Alavesa
Description: The Izadi Rioja Crianza is impressive – an intense, youthful purple in colour, with the vanilla oak perfumes well integrated with the juicy black fruit on the palate and fine, savoury tannins. The grapes for this wine come from vineyards situated at 600 metres above sea level so warm days give way to cool nights, encouraging the aromatic qualities in the grapes to develop. The grapes are destemmed and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks then the wine is aged in 225L barriques for 14 months. Izadi is based in Villabuena in the Rioja Alavesa, the highest part of Rioja. The hillside winery was founded in 1987 by Gonzalo Anton as a modern breakaway from the traditional style of wine produced by other members of his family. As son Lalo Anton says, ‘the whole concept of Izadi really started around wanting to produce wine to satisfy the needs of our friends over a meal’. The winemaking philosophy is beautifully simple, as Lalo explains; ‘Flexibility is the key – we follow a style but conditions change with each vintage. Order, flexibility and cleanliness are the keys for us to produce modern, international wines that are true to their roots and a natural expression of the area’. (12 x 75 cl)

Domaine Claude Dugat Bourgogne Rouge AC
Description: Without doubt in the top 10 producers in Burgundy, and one of the top 2 or 3 producers of Gevrey Chambertin. Claude knows every inch of his vineyards and it is this zeal and fanaticism that makes his wines so extraordinary. They are also made in tiny quantities with strictly limited availability. With some of the oldest vines of any Domaine in Burgundy, some as old as 70 years old, it is with no surprise that Dugat yields as little as 18 hectolitres per hectare. Dugat's Pinot berries suck terroir out of the soil and deliver focused fruit flavours that can electrify, even shock, the palate with uncompromising purity. With no filtration, no fining and little intervention during vinification, it should come as no surprise that Dugat's Pinots are so clean and racy. The nose shows lovely ripe cherries with some nice herbiness. Richly fruited palate, soft and full, with firm tannins, appropriate acidity, spicy elements and great balance. Planeta Syrah IGT Sicily
Description: Planeta has risen spectacularly since inception in 1994, being named Winery of the Year 1999. In 1996 Planeta started growing Syrah because it is the international grape variety which, more than any other, is at its best in warm regions such as Sicily. As Syrah needs a long exposure to the sunlight, Planeta believe that sunny Sicily, widely accepted as the land of its origin, is the most suitable for the production of premium quality Syrah. Planeta blended the first vintages of this variety with Nero d’Avola, however, starting from 1999, a pure Syrah wine was produced, full and rich with a spicy bouquet and aromatic notes of green figs, this is the sunniest wine of the Planeta range. The Syrah grapes are destemmed and crushed, followed by the process of extraction on skins conduced with 12 days of maceration. After draining the wine is matured in 225 litres French oak barrels for 12 months. A ruby red coloured wine with violet undertones and an Australian styled nose reminiscent of intense spices like pepper and cloves. Fig and fig sap scents predominate, and the wood notes blend into the fruit gathering into a cocoa-like complex aroma. The young tannins and fresh fruit palate are luscious and supple in texture, with an impact that is lasting. The power of this wine is due to its complexity more than just the tannin. (6 x 75 cl)
