Bodegas Faustino CAMPILLO Rosado Rioja DO
Description: Don Eleuterio Martinez Arzok was born in Barriobusto. In 1861 he bought a house and lands in Oyon and founded the Faustino Group. At the turn of the century the vineyards were totally destroyed by phylloxera. His son Don Faustino Martinez Perez de Albeniz was born in 1904 and, in 1920, he helped his father rebuild and restore the vineyards. Faustino began bottling their wines in 1930 and by 1957 Don Julio Faustino Martinez, the third generation, took over the family business and in 1960, the Faustino brand was created in honour of his father. Today, the Faustino group owns several Bodegas including the 50 hectare estate Bodegas Campillo. 100% Tempranillo this rose has an attractive raspberry pink colour with purple hues. Clean and bright with intense aromas showing notes of ripe fruit and wild berries, it is both tasty and well structured, with fruity sensations accompanied by well-balanced acidity and an enjoyable finish. Description: Deep colour, very rich, sweet fruit on the palate with a fine, round, soft texture. Andrea Oberto owns 8 hectares of perfectly exposed vineyards in the commune of La Morra . He uses organic farming methods with very hard pruning in winter and bunch thinning in the summer to reduce yields to no more than 5 or 6 bunches per vine in good vintages and 3 or 4 bunches in less good years. This equals just over 1 bottle of wine per plant in a good vintage. Oberto's adoption of avant garde winemaking techniques and maturation exclusively in French oak means that all his wines have great elegance, suppleness and precision of fruit flavours. (12 x 75 cl)

Description: Dominated by 80% Corvina Veronese and 20% Rondinella this classic dessert wine is made from carefully selected, fully ripened grapes that, immediately following harvest, are partially dried in farmhouses on traditional straw mats called "arelle" for up to 150 days to concentrate the sugars. The resulting wine is aged for 18 months in Allier barriques followed by a period of refinement in bottle. Brilliant purple coloured wine with a compelling fragrance that mingles classic notes of prune, raspberry, spice, hay and cocoa. Full-bodied, rich and enjoyably sweet, the residual sugar is perfectly balanced against a backbone of fruit and fine tannins, with lingering flavors of wild berries, chocolate and licorice. Cline Cellars Syrah California
Description: At the turn of the 20th century, Oakley was home to a number of Portuguese and Italian immigrants who found many similarities to the Mediterranean climate they had left behind. They planted thousands of acres of orchards and vineyards. Today, a century later, due to the devastation of phylloxera and the encroachment of commercial and residential development, only 600 acres of vineyards remain in this evolving community. Cline Cellars owns and controls 300 of those acres including some of the oldest surviving vines in California. Cline Cellars began when Fred Cline's maternal grandfather, Valeriano Jacuzzi lived in Oakley and inspired him to go on to to U.C. Davis to study agriculture management. After attaining his degree in 1982, Fred returned to Oakley and founded Cline Cellars. There he started producing wines and restoring his grandfather’s ancient vines: today the Zinfandel, Carignane and Mourvedre produced from these vines are some of the most unique and historic wines made in California. In 1991, the winery relocated from Oakley to the Carneros region of Sonoma County. Here Fred pioneered the planting of Rhone varietals including Syrah, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne. Made from the fruit of young vines, between 4 and 10 years old, this is made in a juicy, berry-fruit style. A deep purple coloured wine that explodes and fascinates each time it is poured into a glass. The cracked black pepper aromas complement the black cherry jamminess while the finish is complex and long. (12 x 75 cl)

Chateau Haut Bailly Cru Classe Pessac-Leognan
Description: Chateau Haut-Bailly vineyard is on a single plot on the highest land in the commune of Leognan. The weather during the spring of 1998 was very wet followed by a hot, dry May. Mid flowering occurred on the 4th June, ten days ahead of normal. With Veraison, consistent with flowering, was quick and uniform allowing the harvest to strat on 23 September. However, the summer was very hot with no rain in July and August, although during early September the rain came once more. The Merlot was picked before the rain and the Cabernet Sauvignon remained healthy in spite of the rain. The Merlot was of a remarkable quality and produced a remarkable colour and richness of tannins. The wine has been put together with a lot of sophistication to produce a harmonious wine full of dense, ripe flavours of black fruits, superb tannins and a long fantastic finnish. (12 x 75 cl)
