The Vintage Reserve 1996 shows a beautiful deep gold colour, with slight green hues. The sparkle is lively and persistent. The nose is expressive and complex. The first impression is of citrus, yellow fruit together with subtle dry fruit aromas and spices . In the mouth, it is very full and well structured, and for its age, still dominated by freshness, truly representative of the 96 vintage. Richness and intensity are wonderfully associated. The remarkable balance means that this champagne will keep (12 x 37.5 cl)

Scrimaglio CROUTIN Barbera d'Asti Superior Piedmont
Description: The Scrimaglio family can trace their ancestry in the Piedmont region back to the 1600's. At the turn of the 19th century, the Scrimaglio family turned their hand to wine production having prior to this, occupied themselves mostly with the growing of grapes, which in turn were sold to winemakers. Of the present generation, the brothers Mario and Franco, have in recent years expanded the business into a state-of-the-art winery. Much enthusiasm and great monetary investment has been ploughed into the present wine cellar. The winery is located in the Monferrato region, situated between Contea of Castelvero and the Marchesato of Nizza. The colour is an intense ruby red with orange tints that increase as the wine matures. The bouquet is full of red fruits such as plums, cherries and ripe blackberries. When young the palate is quite soft whilst mellow and complex. As the wine ages it develops a more intense flavour underlined by the taste of coffee beans and liquorice. Serve with red meats, game and strong cheeses. To fully appreciate this wine decant it for a couple of hours and serve at 20-22C. (6 x 75 cl)

W & J Graham's 1994 Vintage Port
Description: Vintage Ports are only made on very exceptional years . The principal determining factor is the weather in the vineyards which must be ideal throughout the viticultural season and subsequently during the harvest. Only a few exceptional vineyards in the Upper Douro region produce wines of sufficient body and style to make a true Vintage Port. After the harvest, wines of Vintage potential are put into oak barrels called 'pipes'. Some eighteen months later a careful and painstaking series of tastings is held to judge exactly which wines of different vineyards merit inclusion in the final blend. If the ideal blend is achieved, the wine is then bottled without any filtration whatsoever approximately 24 months after the original harvest . Vintage Port must then be matured for some ten to twenty years in cool dark cellars as it gradually achieves the outstanding style of a great wine. The bottles should always be stored lying down. Vintage Ports deposit a heavy sediment or 'crust' in the bottle while maturing and must be decanted prior to serving. A very few Port companies, through having consistently produced great Vintage Ports over many years, enjoy outstanding reputations. Graham's is universally acknowledged to be a leader in this field.
