Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape AC
Description: The result of the effort and innovation of three generations of the Perrin family is clearly evident when one has the pleasure of tasting a good vintage of Chateau de Beaucastel at its peak. If one word can describe the red wines of Beaucastel it must be 'pure': pure because they are the natural expression of the earth and the grapes from whence they came. In this case the vineyard is a patchwork of all 13 permitted grape varieties covering 70 hectares in all. The thirteen grape varieties of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation are used in this wine with a strong percentage of Mourvedre and Grenache , Syrah 10%, Counoise 10% Cinsault 5% and the rest divided up among the remaining grape varieties: Vaccarese, Terret noir, Muscardin, Picpoul, Picardan, Bourboulenc, Roussanne. The Grenache and the Cinsault give the wine its colour, intensity and softness. The Mourvedre, Syrah, Muscardin and Vaccarese give the wine its renowned ageing potential and dark, classic character. While the Counoise, Picpoul and so on give a certain freshness, fragrance and aromatic quality. The soil is the same porous, aerated blanket of Alpine diluvium on a base of Miocene marine limestone that exists elsewhere on the estate. The vines are on average 50 years old and yields are never more than 30 hectolitres per hectare and often much less. It is a vibrant and healthy vineyard due to years of organic cultivation and close monitoring of the needs of each vine. This has produced a dark ruby red coloured wine showing a slight hint of purple at the rim. The nose is full of spice, and deep black berries while the mouth has a fresh attack, lingering in the total taste of the wine, fresh berries and tannins present. (12 x 75 cl)

Sherwood Estate CLEARWATER VINEYARDS Chardonnay Canterbury NZ
Description: Sherwood Estate is very much a family business, with Dayne and Jill Sherwood owning and operating it since the late 1980's. The winery is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, while they have four vineyards also owned by Sherwood Estate in the famed Marlborough Region, at the top of the South Island. Based on nearly twenty years of growing grapes and making wine, Sherwood Estate now specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Sherwood Estate produce three ranges of wines the Clearwater Range, the Sherwood Estate Range and the the Stratum Range. The Clearwater range represents the very best varietal single vineyard wines from Sherwood Estate's own vineyards in Waipara. This is very much a hand crafted range both in the vineyards and winery, here meticulous care is taken to ensure that the wine produced is of the highest quality and reflects each vineyard's unique characteristics or 'terroir'. The fruit was hand harvested and in the winery a gentle pressing was undertaken with the juice fermented and aged on lees for 10 months in French oak barriques . Following a light fining and filtration the wine was bottled. This Chardonnay is packed wuth tropical and stonefruit aromas on the nose. A richly concentrated white, benefiting from barrel fermentation in French oak it has a complex, nutty, mealy character in the mouth with a bright citrus fruit lift, it culminates in a long, concentrated finish with touches of mineral and honey. Description: Francois Mikulski has 8 hectares of vineyards in Pommard and Meursault, with new cellars directly behind the great Comte Lafon. These cellars are impressive and inside there are some 300 barrels, mostly new. Hugel et Fils JUBILEE Riesling Alsace
Description: The Riesling JUBILEE comes from the historic HUGEL family estates in the heart of the Grand Cru Schoenenbourg slope. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and taken in small tubs to the presses, which is filled by gravity, without any pumping or other mechanical intervention. After pressing, the must is decanted for a few hours, then fermented in temperature-controlled barrels or vats . The wine is racked just once, before natural clarification during the course of the winter. The following spring, the wine is lightly filtered just before bottling, and the bottles are then aged in our cellars until released for sale. Nice concentration and depth, dominated by pale green reflections, star bright, slowly forming legs of average thickness. Harmonious and balanced bouquet, A remarkably well balanced wine, its structure is perfectly matched by its distinguished, ripe acidity. A wine of great depth and with a long future stretching before it. (12 x 75 cl)
