Jim Barry SILLY MID ON Sauvignon Blanc Semillon South Australia
Description: Situated in the cool uplands of the North Mount Lofty ranges about 50 km north of Adelaide, the vineyards of Jim Barry were established in Clare in 1959. This is a family run winery committed to producing quality wines through an innovative approach to viticulture and winemaking technology. Those who know cricket will be aware of the fielding position called ‘Silly Mid On’. Close to the batsman, requiring very good reflexes and always at risk of being struck by the ball off the bat, this wine is a reflection of this. This release of ‘Silly Mid On’ Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon is a blend of three components; Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc , Clare Valley Sauvignon Blanc and Clare Valley Semillon . The premium Clare fruit was sourced from the Jim Barry vineyards and the Adelaide Hills fruit was courtesy of friends in the Adelaide Hills. This wine is a brilliant pale straw in colour, with enticing aromas of cut grass, lychees and Chinese fruits. The flavours are zesty and refreshing, full of tropical fruit, with hints of lime, citrus and lychees. The palate shows excellent length and a crisp finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Jim Barry THE COVER DRIVE Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia
Description: Situated in the cool uplands of the North Mount Lofty ranges about 50 km north of Adelaide, the vineyards of Jim Barry were established in Clare in 1959. This is a family run winery committed to producing quality wines through an innovative approach to viticulture and winemaking technology. As a result of this in Jim barry purchased great vine growing land on the southern boundary of Coonawarra. It was formally the old Penola cricket ground, which first saw a ball bowled in anger and the flashing cover drives of the local champions in 1950. Sadly, the ground closed in 1996 and soon afterwards Jim Barry purchased the 30 acre property and planted a Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard. However, the original pavilion and pitch have been retained, thus preserving an important piece of Coonawarra sporting history. Fruit from this vineyard, along with selected parcels of fruit from Jim Barry's other family owned Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Clare Valley have been blended to produce a wine that is rich, soft and approachable. Fruit from the Clare Valley and Coonawarra have been used to produce a dark red coloured wine with ripe blackberry, mint and sweet oak aromas. The palate is rich and full bodied with ripe, sweet blackberry and mint flavours, while it shows firm, but finely grained tannins complemented by a lingering finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Kingston Estate EMINENT Chardonnay South Eastern Australia
Description: Kingston Estate Wines has grown rapidly since Sarantos and Constantina Moularadellis first developed their 40 acre vineyard in 1979 in South Australia's Riverland wine region. Today, Kingston is the 10th largest wine producer in Australia and remains one of Australia's largest family-owned wineries. Echelon showcases the limited release varietal wines from South Australia, considered by Kingston's winemaker as the pinnacle of each vintage. Only parcels displaying exceptional fruit vibrancy and intensity of flavour make the final selection. Sourced from various South Australian premium regions, the wines are assessed not only for their youthful qualities, but an ability to develop their full potential with further bottle maturation. The grapes for this wine were from vineyards at Adelaide Hills, Limestone Coast and Riverland. The fruit was harvested during the cool night temperatures to retain fruit freshness and minimize oxidation. The grapes were then crushed, chilled, pressed and inoculated with premium yeast. The fermenting juice was transferred to 80%French and 20% American new and old hogs heads. It was then allowed to mature on oak with regular lees stirring for 12 months with 10% undergoing malolactic fermentation. Individual barrels were selected for their flavour intensity and complexity, and mouthfeel characteristics. A brilliant, straw yellow coloured wine with youthful green hues. The bouquet is showing lifted tropical fruit over aromas of coconut and apricots. There are plenty of fruity flavours with layers of attractive peach, grapefruit and melon fruits well integrated with the creamy vanilla barrel ferment characters. The well-balanced acidity from this cooler fruit growing region gives the wine wonderful length, persistency and elegance. Limited Availability. (12 x 75 cl)

Kingston Estate ESTATE Petit Verdot South Australia
Description: Kingston Estate Wines has grown rapidly since Sarantos and Constantina Moularadellis first developed their 40 acre vineyard in 1979 in South Australia's Riverland wine region. Today, Kingston is the 10th largest wine producer in Australia and remains one of Australia's largest family-owned wineries. Petit Verdot is a unique red variety that thrives in the warmer regions of Australia, and in particular the Riverland area of South Australia. Originally from the cool Bordeaux region of France, this late harvest variety struggles to ripen in its homeland. However, Kingston Estate has extensive plantings of Petit Verdot growing in selected deep sandy soils on limestone adjacent to the winery where the grapes consequently reach full ripeness and intensity. Great care is taken from the vineyard to the winery where the Petit Verdot grapes were harvested at night and transported to the winery it is then immediately crushed and fermentation begun. On completion of fermentation the wine was matured with French and American oak before final blending and preparation for bottling. The wine is a deep red colour with a bouquet of violets, blueberries, plums and spices reminiscent of a Christmas cake. These flavours continue onto the palate with the spice characters of clove, cinnamon and vanilla well integrated with vibrant cherry fruit flavours. The palate is medium to full bodied with generous fruit and rich tannins. The fruit retains a vibrancy of wild flowers and berry flavours with a wonderful length of flavour. (12 x 75 cl)

Today, Kingston is the 10th largest wine producer in Australia and remains one of Australia's largest family-owned wineries. The grapes for this wine were sourced from selected vineyards along the Limestone Coast and Adelaide Hills, cool-climate regions ideally suited to Sauvignon Blanc. Only the free-run juice was used to minimize phenolic content and fermentation temperature was carefully controlled to ensure maximum retention of varietal characters. This has produced a pale yellow coloured wine with green tinges, the nose is unmistakably Sauvignon Blanc with pungent herbaceous fruit characters of tomato leaves, lantana and capsicum. The herbaceous characters continue onto the palate where they are complexed by pineapple and passion fruit, tropical fruit flavours. A racy acid backbone gives this wine a lip-smacking finish. Kingston Estate SARANTOS Soft Press Shiraz South Eastern Australia
Sarantos, named after one of Kingston Estate owners is an easy drinking range of wines. Using only the best quality fruit and adopting the practice of soft pressing so that only free run juice is used in the winemaking process. This has resulted in a range of wines showing full fruit characters. This is a rich and warming wine style with infinite drinkability. Grapes were selected from vineyards throughout South Australia including the Clare Valley, Adelaide Plains and the Riverland. Parcels of fruit which showed generous fruit concentration were identified and treated in the Soft Press winemaking style. After crushing the grape skins were handled gently to maximize the variety's pure and clean flavours during the ensuing fermentation process. Only a small portion of the wine was matured with American and French oak with the intention being to allow maximum fruit expression and the oak adding subtle complexity. The Sarantos Shiraz is a deep plum red colour while on the nose it has rich licorice, chocolate, plums, dark berry fruits and subtle spiciness and is very much like a warm Christmas fruit pudding. These attractive flavours continue onto the palate and are fused with soft charry characters and maraschino cherries. For all its depth of flavour and intensity it has surprisingly soft tannins and acid, typical of the 'Soft Press' style. (12 x 75 cl)
