Domaine Chandon de Briailles ILE DES VERGELESSES 1er Cru Pernand Vergelesses Blanc
Description: Owned by the same family since 1834 Domaine Chandon de Briailles was once a renowned domaine, but things had declined. Then in 1990, Nadine de Nicolay and her daughter, Claude, took over. Changes were made everywhere as yields were reduced, the use of herbicides abandoned for natural methods, while fining and filtration were stopped. This change in philosophy resulted in a changed of fortune and Domaine Chandon de Briailles is once again acknowledged as a maker of fine wines. This change has been reflected not only in the vineyard but also in the winery and the wines now spend between 18 and 24 months in the underground cellars where they are racked twice and bottled by gravity without filtration. Description: Since Frank Follin inherited vines originally under the control of the Louis Latour empire, he has been making sublime wines of concentration, purity and complexity. On his 6 ha of vineyards all of his vines from Aloxe-Corton, Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Romanee St Vivant, are tended by hand and respectfully protected from any form of insecticide or pesticide. A qualified geologist, Frank has developed wines that are a great reflection of the Terroir. This is a deep red almost purple coloured wine with beautiful aromas of strawberries, pepper and cream that complement the delightfully velvety tannins and great depth on the palate of this Pinot Noir. Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard LES BELLES FILLES Pernand-Vergelesses
Description: The renowned estate of Girard-Vollot split in 1998 and Jean-Jacques Girard took his share of the vines and began to produce perfumed wines with great structure from reduced yields. To preserve maximum freshness and aroma Jean-Jacques starts the fermentation in stainless steel before transferring the wine into oak barrels and this has produced a bleached-straw in colour with a nose of mirabelle plum, bergamot and dried apricot. This Pernand-Vergelesses is full and buttery in the mouth as the fruit and minerals combined with a slight oakiness. (12 x 75 cl)
