Pascal Jolivet ATTITUDE Sauvignon Blanc Vins de Pays du Jardin de la France
Description: For several years, New Zealand has been crowned King of the World of Sauvignon Blanc, but in recent times the vignerons of the Loire have been fighting back. One of those at the forefront of the counter-attack is the dynamic Pascal Jolivet. If you've never tried any of Pascal's Sancerres or Pouilly Fumes, be assured that they are at once authentically Loire, while resolutely modern. Attitude is a new venture for him. The grapes come from vineyards within the Touraine AOC, but since Pascal chose to vinify them in his cellars in Sancerre, the wine has to settle for a vin de pays designation. Those in search of fruit will find it here in abundance: gooseberries and citrus fruit in particular. Those looking for more complex notes will find overtones of nettles, flint and minerals. The overall impression is of drinkability mixed with elegance, a very satisfying combination.' (12 x 75 cl)

Remy Pannier DAME de la VALLEE Sauvignon Blanc Loire
Description: A pale, limpid yellow coloured wine showing great aromatic character with emanations of citrus fruits and white flowers. Balanced, fruity wine with citrus fruits developing on the palate this is a wine to enjoy through to the finish. In the 18th century, Louis Remy, a vassal of the 'Seigneurerie de Milly' in Anjou, decided to leave for Chenehutte, situated on the banks of the Loire. There he was employed as a bargee working between Saumur and Nantes. He sailed the large flat bottomed barges, well adapted to the difficulties of navigating on the Loire at the time. Wine, transported in barrels, made up the major portion of the cargo. It was in 1885 that François Remy, son of the last bargee in the family and apprentice cooper, took over a small vineyard left to him by the widow of his boss on the death of the latter. Louis, his son developed the business, particularly the transport sector which quickly spread to the west and east and included both the muscadet and pouilly regions. He associated his wife's name to his and the company name became Remy Pannier. Thereafter Maurice Remy, his son, both passionate and with a strong desire to develop the company, propelled Remy Pannier to the top of the list of Wine Merchants in the Loire Valley. Anticipating future trends, he guided the company from the trading of wine in barrels into the business of bottling and trading. During several long trips to the USA and Japan in the 50's he helped establish an international reputation for the name Remy Pannier. He also improved and then spectacularly grew the sales of the wine merchants progressively consolidated since 1956; Ackerman-Laurance company, the oldest traditional sparkling wine merchant; then in 1978, De Neuville company. In the 90's, under his guidance, Remy Pannier integrated the vinification and maturing of the wines and built modern facilities. This enabled them to produce high quality, expressive wines and develop the activity of the barrel merchant company to include the vinification and maturing of the wines. At the end of 2001 the company was taken over by the major cooperatives of the Loire valley, cementing the relationships with the winegrowers and helping promote their wines within the context of increased international competition. Champalou CUVEE C C TRIES DE VENDANGE Vouvray
Description: Catherine and Didier Champalou are young growers in Vouvray who, since 1984 have assembled a small domaine with vines averaging 25 years, planted solely with Chenin Blanc. The aim is to bring out the maximum expression of character from the grape while reflecting the different terroirs on which the vines are planted. Thus by applying rigorous standards, they have created one of the most exciting wineries in Vouvray. Didier Champalou's 19ha vineyard produces exceptional wine almost every year. For this dessert wine hrvesting began on 20th October of only botrytised grapes. Pickers will go through the vines several times over during a period of days to pick the grapes as they become botrytised on the vine. Sometimes only parts of a grape are used, if it is not sufficiently botrytised. Therefore there is only a small yield of 18hl over 4.5 ha of vines. After the pressing and gentle racking, the must is fermented for four months in oak casks of 220 litres which allows the flavours to develop and become more refined and for the structure of the fruit sugars to balance out. Medium-bodied, elegant yet very intense, astonishingly sweet and rich, but not a bit cloying. Honeyed, peachy botrytis-influenced, fruit amazingly succulent and complex with an extraordinary ageing ability. Available in 50 cl Bottles. (6 x 50 cl)

Thus by applying rigorous standards, they have created one of the most exciting wineries in Vouvray. Didier Champalou's 19ha vineyard produces exceptional wine almost every year. Adopting manual harvesting during mid-October, the grapes are sorted by hand with only ripened and botrytised grapes being used. Once the grapes are pressed and the must racked, fermentation takes place in 220-500 litre oak casks. Vinifying the must in such small quantities means that it can take place over a longer period of time which gives more elegant fruit flavours. Bottling took place during the following September, inevitably, yields are restricted due to such practices. A beautiful light lemon yellow colour, this wine has an enticing nose of honey, cream and green apples. On the palate it has sweet fruit and a well balanced finish, with fresh balancing acidity that prevents the wine from becoming cloying. (6 x 75 cl)
