The charming Sylvain Bernard, owner of Domaine de Fauterie, is based in the sleepy village of Saint-Peray and has vines in the appellation of the same name, Cornas and Saint-Joseph. Sylvain makes a wonderfully fleshy style of syrah and the Cornas is the star of the domaine. Here he has a lifetime lease on a beautifully situated 1.5 hectares of vines at the foot of the Cornas slope, which were planted in 1895; the land belongs to the ancient de Barjac family and the family records confirm the vines' extraordinary age. Available in 1.5 Litre Magnum bottles. (6 x 1.5 Litres)

Domaine Jean Luc Colombo LES MEJEANS Cornas
Description: The wines of Jean-Luc Colombo typically reflect an exuberance of fruit and depth of expession. Concentrated and precisely crafted, they resonate with authentic varietal character and thus entice the wine lover's palate. This wine comes from the assembling of old vines from various vineyard sites of the Cornas appellation. After a classical vinification with destemming, the wine is aged in oak for 18 months. Les Mejeans is a fine expression of the terroir and appellation of Cornas, while it may be cellared for some years or enjoyed younger while still on its fruit. The robe is a deep yet brilliant red while the nose is complex showing blackcurrants, chocolate, black fruits. A good solid, tannic structure shows through after a fairly supple attack leading to an enjoyable finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Domaine Jean Luc Colombo LES TERRES BRULEES Cornas
Description: This wine is made with a balanced approach which respects the environment, for example, the vines are cultivated manually without the use of insecticides or pesticides. Once in the winery great care is taken and finally the wine is matured for 18 months in one year old barrels. Balance and fullness characterise this deep red, almost inky coloured Shiraz. Aromas of red fruit mixed with those of blackberries, and spices show a hint of tabacco and liquorice. On the palate, the spicy side comes through showing its richness and concentration. Persistent aromas of red fruit and liquorice add an elegance to the structure built upon fine tannins. (12 x 75 cl)

Domaine Lionnet 'Terre Brulee' Cornas
Description: Not to be confused with Jean Lionnet, especially as they are just a few hundred yards apart in the village. Under the new regime of Ludovic Izerabie and his wife Corinne, daughter of Pierre Lionnet, took over winemaking duties in 2002. The domaine consists of six different parcels of old vines but still only totals a meagre two hectares. The youngest vines are thirty five years old, the oldest 100 years old. Vinification is simple and designed to allow the wine, which is bottled unfined and unfiltered, to express its origin. There are no fancy cuvees made currently, just one very good Cornas that will win many friends. A spicy fruit driven nose has well structured tannin and long spicy finish. (12 x 75 cl)
