Stonier RESERVE Pinot Noir Mornington Peninsula Victoria Australia
Description: In 1978, Brian Stonier and his wife Noel established the Stonier vineyard in the coastal town of Merricks, one hour South-East of Melbourne and ten minutes from the challenging surf beaches of Bass Straight. Over 25 years later, the name Stonier is widely recognised as a producer of exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. At the heart of Stonier lies a meticulous approach to viticulture and winemaking, while tyhere is a real desire to reflect the imprint of each vineyard, through subtle variations in flavour and texture, interweaving these differences to form elegant wines of seamless complexity. Pinot Noir from the oldest vineyards was selected for this wine and fermented in small open fermenters with about 25% receiving extended skin maceration, and around 5% being whole bunch fermented. Post ferment the wine was pressed to French oak for malolactic fermentation and ageing with minimal winemaking interference occured before bottling. The Reserve shows an intensity and purity of fruit reflecting the great growing season, and has structure to reward medium term cellaring. A deep, bright red coloured wine the aromas of plums, redcurrants and maraschino cherries are evident while some floral and violet complexity complements the subtle French oak bouquet. Rich red fruit flavours dominate the palate and a typically generous and silky mid-palate is balanced by good acidity, while the fine grain tannins give great length and structure. (6 x 75 cl)

Redbank FIGHTING FLAT Shiraz King Valley Victoria
Description: Low yields and a long cool ripening period in the King Valley during the summer of 1999, resulted in wines of great intensity and fruit character. Vibrant purple and red in colour, the 1999 Fighting Flat Shiraz has intense raspberry, clove and eucalypt fruit characters with a hint of chocolate and spice from 18 months French oak maturation. Raspberry, spices and plums add a sweet texture to the medium- to full-bodied palate. Integrated French oak contributes cedar and chocolate flavours and enhances the tight structure and long, gently tannic finish. This is a wine that will reward those with patience, however, for those who cannot wait, it is a perfect accompaniment to lamb shanks or mushroom risotto. (6 x 75 cl)
