Staatlicher Hofkeller Franconia Wurzburg
Description: A blend of 40% Rivaner, 40% Bacchus and 20% Silvaner, this Franconia is scented and soft yet crisp on the finish, making it eminently appealing and drinkable. It is produced from the ripest grapes on the estate’s 175 hectares of vineyard, the more southerly location of which results in a dry style of German wine without the boniness that characterises many a trocken. Dr Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Auslese Mosel
Description: The Dr. Loosen estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. When Ernst Loosen assumed ownership of the estate in 1988, he soon realized that with ungrafted vines averaging 60 years old, and vineyard sites rated according to his estate-specific classification and the more current Wine Atlas of Germany, he had the raw materials to create stunningly intense, world-class wines. Ernst reduced his crop size. He stopped all chemical fertilization, preferring only moderate use of organic fertilizers. And, most importantly, he reached back to a gentler century for cellar practices that allow the wine to develop its full potential with a minimum of handling and technological meddling. With his modern world view and his traditional, old-fashioned approach to winemaking, Ernst strives to produce wines that unmistakably say Riesling, Mosel and Dr. Loosen. The grapes of this vineyard are grown on red sandstone and slate soil of Urziger Wurzgarten which make it unique on the Mosel. Although immediately upstream from the top vineyards of Erden, the estate produces a completely different kind of great wine, with exotically spicy aromas and a mesmerising earthiness. Available in half bottles. (12 x 37.5 cl)
