Cascina Baricchi VISAGES DE CANAILLES Spumante Rose Piemonte
Description: Situated in the small village of Neviglie Cascina Baricchi is a relatively young enterprise; the estate was purchased in 1979 but the first vintage was as recent as 1996. The owner is an extrovert young chap called Natale Simonetta. He likes experimentation. this is why he started to produce ice wine , sparkling Nebbiolo and Voila' . Visages de Canaille is no mere fizzy Barolo blush, as if such a thing could exist. The wine is a spumante produced with 100% Nebbiolo harvested in the last week of August to retain a high level of acidity. The grapes are pressed very gently in order to extract only a small amount of colour from the skins. And here's the unusual bit: the wine spends the last eight months at the temperature of 4 degrees! A beautiful wine, pale-pearly-pink, distinctively Nebbiolo, capturing the essence of that fugitive grape: think wild roses, cherry-leaf and the scent of early grey tea. Contero BRACHETTO d ACQUI DOCG Strevi
Description: This Brachetto d’Acqui is made from Brachetto, one of italy’s most interesting grape varieties. It can be made in a variety of styles, but Contero make theirs as a slightly sparkling red. Pale cherry in colour and reminiscent of wild strawberries and crushed rose petals, this wine is a delight. The flavour is sweet and aromatic, with violets, bitter cherries and red summer fruit on the palate, and a slightly dry finish. The 11 hectare estate is owned by the Marenco family who bought it in 2004. They are, as natives of Strevi, committed to upholding the quality ethos originally established by the Lombardini family. The vineyards, in the heart of Strevi, are situated in one of the best zones for Brachetto and Moscato in Piemonte. Description: Produced from 100% Barbera grapes from the Nizza, Monferrato area. The grapes are hand harvested at the beginning of October and fermented at controlled temperatures. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 12 months. Elegant, persistent and complex on the nose with hints of blackberry, dried plum and green peppers.
