Ca’ Rugate established by the Tessari family in 1986 has a great deal of respect for tradition and a passion for viticulture, inspired by firm convinction that the quality first is created in the vineyard and then in the cellar. Cà Rugate takes the name from the hill of volcanic origin, at the centre of the Soave Classico area, in which its vineyards are positioned. The soft inclinations of those hills were always adapted to create great wines because of their fantastic position, special microclima and special soil composition. The Estate covers 30 ha of Ca’Rugate, 25 ha around monforte d’apone and 5 ha around montecchia di crosara, in the region of Valpolicella. In the vineyard, they use modern pruning techniques, along with careful canopy management and green pruning; while the latest vinification techniques bring out distinctive aromas and refined flavours in the wines. Made from a selection of the best grapes from Ca’ Rugate’s own vineyards in the hills around Montecchia di Crosara this is a blend of 40% Rondinella, 30% Corvinone and 30% Corvin. The grapes are Hand picked during the last two weeks of September, and laid flat in small wooden boxes containing an average of just six kilograms. This allows good air flow during the crucial drying process. The grapes are allowed to dry gently in well-ventilated rooms for around 4-5 months, concentrating their flavours, sweetness and colour. In winter, the grapes are crushed, fermentation starts with natural yeast and then the must is filled into 500l oak casks to finish fermenting. The wine then matures in wood for 25-30 months before bottling.. Intense garnet red coloured Amarone full of concentrated aromas of ripe blueberries, blackberries and cherries is enhanced with a hint of spicy oak. The palate is rich, full bodied and complex as well as being beautifully balanced and lingering. (6 x 75 cl)

Ca' Rugate CAMPO LAVEI Valpolicella Superiore DOC
Description: Ca’ Rugate established by the Tessari family in 1986 has a great deal of respect for tradition and a passion for viticulture, inspired by firm convinction that the quality first is created in the vineyard and then in the cellar. The Campo Lavei vineyard on the hills of Montecchia di Crosara gives its name to this wine and is a blend of 40% Corvina, 30% Rondinella, 30% Corvinone. Harvested at the beginning of October, some of the grapes are set aside to dry in wooden trays until the end of December. The undried grapes are destemmed and fermented straight after the harvest. The dried grapes are added later and allowed to ferment in stainless steel for a week before pressing at the end of December. The wine is then transferred into small barrels to finish fermentation and then mature in wood for 8 to10 months. This is a deep ruby red coloured wine with intense aromas of black fruit and cherries, and a twist of spice from the wood. This is followed by a mellow rounded palate with elegant tannin balance and nice finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Cantina Valpantena FALASCO Ripasso Valpolicella DOC
Description: This prestigious wine is obtained by an ancient tecnique known in the Veronese area as 'Ripasso'. This tecnique consists of giving more body and character to Valpolicella wine by running it over the residue of the dried grapes used in the production of Amarone Falasco. This procedure and subsequent refining by means of storage for at least one year in small casks made from French oak, reinforce the structure, colour, and flavour of Valpolicella without altering its freshness. This wine is a blend of Corvina Veronese 70% and Rondinella 30% traditionally drunk with game, grilled meats, stews and well matured cheeses. (12 x 75 cl)

Much of these come from the province of Verona which is famous for both Soave and Valpolicella. Perhaps the greatest wine of the region is the Amarone della Valpolicella, made from semi-dried grapes, giving a wine that is intense, long and rich with a high alcohol content. The region is also becoming well-known for its range of varietal wines, of which Cesari produce some excellent examples. (6 x 75 cl)

Corte Sant'Alda Amarone Della Valpolicella DOC
Description: Marinella Camerani is on a mission to create authentic wines that are strongly connected to the local terroir. Manipulation and intervention are reduced to a minimum, in keeping with the ideal natural balance which is the principle that rules the estate. Continuous research and experimenting, both in the vineyard and in the winery, rediscovering old abandoned practices, techniques that have been replaced by modernity for its own sake, are the daily enterprise of Marinella and her family. Amarone made from half-shrivelled grapes to produce a wine which falls firmly into the 'impegnativo' category, this is beauty and the beast rolled into one: chewy plums, bitter cherries, mocha coffee and what Oz Clarke describes rather well as 'bruised sourness.' The grapes are sourced from various sites with an average altitude of 300 metres and dried in a south-facing breeze-cooled drying loft in small wooden crates, eventually pressed towards the end of February. The cold winter temperatures, the long period of fermentation on the skins and the use of wood during vinification encourage the development of the wine's unique aromas. (6 x 75 cl)

Corte Sant'Alda CA FIUI Valpolicella DOC
Description: Marinella Camerani is on a mission to create authentic wines that are strongly connected to the local terroir. Manipulation and intervention are reduced to a minimum, in keeping with the ideal natural balance which is the principle that rules the estate. Continuous research and experimenting, both in the vineyard and in the winery, rediscovering old abandoned practices, techniques that have been replaced by modernity for its own sake, are the daily enterprise of Marinella and her family. Ca' Fiui is the hillside settlement that was already known in ancient times where, nestling among vineyards and olive trees, the Corte Sant'Alda winery now stands. From the site's gentle, sun-drenched slopes come the well-ripened grapes that give weight and complexity to this youthful but characterful Valpolicella. This red is a blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara to produce a pleasantly juicy red with a nice rasp of acidity. Harvesting is done manually; grapes are then fermented partly in truncated cone-shaped oak vats, where maceration lasts roughly 15 days. (6 x 75 cl)

Corte Sant'Alda Recioto della Valpolicella DOC
Description: Marinella Camerani is on a mission to create authentic wines that are strongly connected to the local terroir. Manipulation and intervention are reduced to a minimum, in keeping with the ideal natural balance which is the principle that rules the estate. Continuous research and experimenting, both in the vineyard and in the winery, rediscovering old abandoned practices, techniques that have been replaced by modernity for its own sake, are the daily enterprise of Marinella and her family. This Recioto is made from specially selected grapes that are dried in a gradual, homogenous manner so that only intact, healthy fruit goes to be pressed. 65% of weight is lost in the drying process. The notable levels of extracts, tannins and sugars, as well as the low temperatures and the restricted environment provided by small oak casks, affect the progress of the fermentation, making it long, slow and intermittent, until it naturally comes to a standstill, leaving the characteristic residual sugar in the wine that is the hallmark of Recioto. A beautiful wine with a complex bouquet and raisined fruits. Available in 50 cl bottles. (12 x 50 cl)
