Goats really do roam on the Fairview estate but the pun is more to do with the Rhone varietals like Shiraz and Grenache which Charles Back has planted and which suit the hot South African sun. Concentrated, spicy wine with lots of body and flavourthis is a deep vibrant purple coloured wine with aromas of ripe fruit and spice. Showing juicy ripe fruit this wine is complemented by the fresh palate with firm tannins and good length. The grapes were harvested from vineyards in the Paarl, Perdeberg, Piekenierskloof and Malmesbury regions. The majority of grapes are sourced from dry farmed old bush vines. These vineyards provide low yields, resulting in wine with considerable concentration. The various, predominantly Rhone varietals were harvested ripe and destalked before being fermented at 25 (12 x 75 cl)

Lerane Terret/Viognier Vin de Pays d'Oc
Description: Lerane is based in Carcassonne in the Languedoc region in the South of France, with access to some of the most consistent, quality conscious grape growers and vineyard sites. The aim every year is to select the finest quality to obtain the best results in the Lérane blends. Grapes are harvested at optimum ripeness, before the acidity starts to wane, and upon reception the grapes are gently crushed and then the must is left overnight to settle in a refrigerated steel tank. Fermentation is temperature controlled and the wine sees no oak while the final blend of 50% Terret and 50% Viognier is then filtered and fined before bottling. The wine is a straw yellow colour with an enticingly aromatic nose reminiscent of peach blossom, ripe apples and white stone fruit. The palate is round and juicy offering a delightful concentration of peach and pear fruit and some hints of tropical lychees, all bound up with a crisp citrus acidity that keeps the wine refreshingly clean. Araldica Alasia IL CASCINONE Sorilaria Arneis Montecillo d'Alba DOC Piemonte
Description: This unusual and concentrated white wine shows an interesting combination of fine mineral characters with floral notes, nutty almond intensity and rich white peach and pear fruit; very ripe, juicy and quite big in the mouth and on the finish, but with zippy balance and lingering length; the acidity is well balanced with the fruit, and the malo-lactic fermentation gives a creamy smoothness and structure to the wine. Arneis is a variety that really needs to be full on to work well, this is exactly that! Fruit for the Sorilaria Roero Arneis comes from the Sorilaria Vineyard in the commune of Monticello d'Alba. Situated at an altitude of around 280m, the 21 year old vines grow in clay chalky soil, and are trained in the classic Guyot system, producing an average of 8 Tonnes/ha. The vineyard is immaculate with great care and attention to detail shown by the fastidious grower Luigi Bertini. Just before harvest the grapes make a spectacular sight hanging in golden bunches at regular intervals along the vine. The grapes are hand-picked and pressed in modern pneumatic presses. 10% of the must is fermented in new French oak barriques, with the remaining 90% being cool-fermented in stainless steel. (6 x 75 cl)
