His son Don Faustino Martinez Perez de Albeniz was born in 1904 and, in 1920, he helped his father rebuild and restore the vineyards. Faustino began bottling their wines in 1930 and by 1957 Don Julio Faustino Martinez, the third generation, took over the family business and in 1960, the Faustino brand was created in honour of his father. Today, the Faustino group owns several Bodegas including the 55 hectare estate Bodegas Valcarlos. A blend of Viura and Malvasia grapes this wine is fermented on lees for 50 days and barrel aged in French casks. This white wine is a lovely lemon-yellow colour with some green hues. Very clean and bright, it has fairly intense aromas with notes of ripe fruit against a background of tropical fruit ; underscored by toasty notes from the oak ageing in casks. Smooth with a fresh attack and well-integrated acidity, the notes of ripe fruit reappear, blending with the toasty notes from the cask.
