Jim Barry THE FLORITA Riesling Clare Valley South Australia
Description: Situated in the cool uplands of the North Mount Lofty ranges about 50 km north of Adelaide, the vineyards of Jim Barry were established in Clare in 1959. This is a family run winery committed to producing quality wines through an innovative approach to viticulture and winemaking technology. 100% estate grown Riesling from the Clare Valley, South Australia, this is a sophisticated wine with real varietal character. Displaying cassic hints of lemon and lime in abundance, but in perfect harmony, the firm acidity with a persistent meal and chalk base dries out the finish provide a foundation for any amount of complexities to develop over the years.
Domaine Cornu Chorey-les-Beaune
Description: Spicy, peppery nose; classic rendition of Pinot from this little commune; fruity on the palate with good grip; a solid fellow with texture and flavour concentration. The Cornu family established itself in the town of Ladoix in 1870 and founded the domaine shortly thereafter in 1875. Edmond Cornu assumed command of the estate in 1956 and in 1959 began to bottle the fruits of his labour. Up to that time all wines made at the estate had been sold to negociants. However, as the private clientele increased, Cornu also expanded the domaine. With the ascension of his son, Pierre, to full participation in the domaine, this dynamic family has aggressively pursued additional opportunities to acquire prime vineyard sites. Colonnara TORNAMAGNO Marche IGT
Description: Ruby red with garnet tinges, intense and persistent bouquet reminiscent of rose and violet. The flavour is dry, velvety and harmonious with a slightly bitter tang. The Colonnara Cooperative in Cupramontana was established in 1959 and has now 183 small growers owning nearly 300 hectares. Apart from a high tech approach to vinification, production is characterised by an effectively “organic” approach to viticulture, using minimal treatments and only natural fertilisers. Verdicchio is unjustly unfashionable in the U.K. At its best, as in Cuprese – a selection from low yielding 20 year old vines – it can be a wine of real personality. The characteristic salty tang of the Verdicchio grape is supported by a positive, ripe, soft texture that develops well with bottle age (6 x 75 cl) Price: £70.63
