Chateau Leoville-Poyferre was created in 1840 due to a division of the large Leoville estate and was included as a second growth in the famous 1855 classification. In 1920, the Cuvelier family purchased the estate and Didier Cuvelier has been in charge since 1979. They made extensive renovations and in 1994 and Michel Rolland, the noted oenologist, began to offer his valuable winemaking advice.
