Adriano Ramos Pinto 1997VintagePort Description: Color: Beautiful violet shades still opaque as the wine is in its first stages of maturation. Nose: Elegant floral notes with hints of rose and black cherry. Palate: Smooth, well-balanced attack. Robust tannins endow the wine with hints of ripe fruit, showing plenty of promise for good aging. Serving Suggestions: This wine is best served after standing upright for at least two hours and decanted. Best served with cheese at the end of a meal. The 1997vintage is a wine of complete ripeness, good acidity, tannin and concentration. The growing season consisted of a sunny winter, adverse weather in spring, and favorable, sunny growing conditions in summer. While there were some weather difficulties, Ramos-Pinto fared well. The 1997vintage will start to reach maturity in 10-15 years (12 x 75 cl) Price: £558.28

Ramos Pinto 1997VintagePort Description: The Casa Ramos Pinto Port Wines are prepared in the modern vinification centres at the Quinta dos Bons Ares and the Quinta do Bom Retiro, but in the case of special category wines the grapes are trodden in the traditional wine cellars as this age-old technique allows for the juice of the fruit to be extracted more efficiently and less violently. After having concluded the first steps of vinification, the wines are transported to the historical wine cellars at Vila Nova de Gaia, where they undergo a long ageing process. Exceptional deep colour with bluish highlights with complex mixed aromas which resemble the taste of red fruit jams such as ripe plum or berry, with hints of chocolate and pepper. In the mouth, it is elegant and very well structured, full-bodied and fruity. The firm tannins provide it with great potential for ageing. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £585.33

Quinta do Infantado 1997VintagePort Description: ''We are traditional,'' explains Joao Roseira. ''We ferment our own grapes from very good vineyards in 'lagars' so get better extraction. As a result, we have higher natural alcohols, which gives us a finer, more elegant style of Port, as we don't need to add so much brandy.'' The best wine is undoubtedly the Vintage, Its swirling flavours of deep, dark plums and chocolate give way to a supple, warming rather than searing finish. The finesse on the finish is a key element of the Infantado wines, and is attributable to the fact that the wine brandy component in their blend is only 15%, whereas the average for Port is about 20% (6 x 75 cl) Price: £205.67
