Description: Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1993 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast. The fruit for the Russian River Valley Zinfandel is a blend of old-vine, dry farmed and low yielding Zinfandel vineyards predominately from the Russian River Valley. These old vineyards offer an impressive articulation of this idiosyncratic varietal. Zinfandel grown in the Russian River Valley is distinctive due to this region’s cool maritime influence. Bright, natural acidity and vibrant fruit aromas and flavours are a result of typically cool fog-laden nights and warm days. These dry-farmed vineyards planted on low-fertility soils consistantly produce wines of exceptional density, and legendary extract. This old-vine Zinfandel provides alluring aromas of blackberry, sweet pipe tobacco, black pepper and anise complemented by flavours reminiscent of fresh baked blackberry pie with allspice, anise and caramel notes on the finish. Stunningly rich and concentrated, this Russian River Valley Zinfandel has incredible definition of fruit and sweet luscious tannins.
