Wirra Wirra CHOOK BLOCK Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia
Description: The Wirra Wirra Cellars were built by Robert Strangways Wigley at the turn of the century, and by 1901 he was the owner of one of the best wineries and vineyards in the district with 100 acres under vines.Wirra Wirra is an aboriginal name meaning amongst the gums. After 1936 the original 240 acres were sold by his family and eventually the cellars fell into disuse. It was not until late 1969 that the winery was bought from Vern Sparrow, son of Wigley's foreman Jack Sparrow, by cousins Greg and Roger Trott and re-established. The estate now comprises 441 acres in McLaren Vale. The late Greg Trott's philosophy is very much built around the pleasant things of life

Wirra Wirra DEAD RINGER Cabernet Sauvignon McLaren Vale South Australia
Description: Wirra Wirra The Angelus, a wine that has built a reputation for classic Australian cabernet sauvignon on the back of the best McLaren Vale and Coonawarra fruit available since 1989, is being exported under the name of Dead Ringer. Its name is taken from the 3/4 tonne Angelus bell at Wirra Wirra that is rung to celebrate the commencement of each McLaren Vale vintage. The Angelus has been well reviewed across Australia and the globe, with the current 2001 vintage receiving high praise from leading wine writers. This wonderfully ripe aromatic Cabernet varietal wine is dense cherry/garnet in colour. Complex, lingering, ripe berry fruits with excellent length and balance. The wine will develop and mature over a number of years, but very able to be enjoyed in it's youth. Serve at room temperature, less than 18c with full flavoured foods especially robust dishes like oxtail stew, almost all red meats, game and strong cheeses. (6 x 75 cl)

Wirra Wirra MRS WIGLEY Rose McLaren Vale South Australia
Description: Mrs Wigley was not the wife of Wirra Wirra founder, Bob Wigley, but a particular pussycat who was born at the neighbouring Petrucci residence. Within days her mum had dragged the litter to settle in our open fermenters, and from them on Mrs Wigley became a permanant feature of the cellars. Produced by running off the juice from the naturally highly coloured varieites Malbec, Grenache and Petit Verdot, Mrs Wigley was then fermented separately in stainless steel tanks to maintain the freshness and lifted fruit from these varieites. Lifted onfectionary and summer berry fruits. Malbec provides a generous aromatic lift of strawberries and cream whilst the Grenache gives dominant notes of raspberries and the Petit Verdot donates a vibrant freshness. Flavours of crushed strawberries and Cherry Ripe with a zesty mouth filling texture and a persistant finish helped by vibrant acid, providing a clean natural balance to the wine. The wine is designed to be drunk whilst young and fresh and this is aided by the Stelvin cap closure, which will maintain its youth and vibrancy. Serve slightly chilled with antipasto, light pasta or cheese or enjoy on its own (6 x 75 cl)
Price: £70.50

Richard Hamilton GUMPRS' BLOCK Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia
Description: Gumprs' Hotel was the original name of McLaren Vale's favourite and most famous regional restaurant the Salopian Inn, which sits diagonally opposite our old Vineyard and has long been a meeting point of wine people in the region. The wine is deep, dark crimson in colour with a brilliant purple hue and has an earthy, inky perfume with violets, ripe raspberries, pepper and mixed spices. This 2001 vintage reflects an excellent vintage producing a wine very rich and full in flavour. It was also fermented over an extended period with generous proportions of whole bunches and stems.
