Price per case: £131.82

Description: The vineyards are located in the central Medoc, near St Laurent Medoc, not far from Chateau Camensac, Chateau Belgrave and Chateau La Tour Carnet to the north, and Chateau Lanessan to the east. Caronne Ste Gemme derives its name from Carona, a nearby spring, with Ste Gemme being a derivative of St James, a local parish. The 45 ha of vines sit on a gravel plateau typical of the Medoc, over an iron rich clay-sandstone base at the western end and a more sandy mix towards the Gironde. The encepagement is also fairly typical; there is a dominance of Cabernet Sauvignon, with a little less Merlot and just a few Petit Verdot vines with an average age of 25 years. This wine has a dense, macerated fruit nose while full of texture and fruit on the palate. A great Cabernet Sauvignon with plenty of tannin, dominating the palate, despite the presence of some Super-ripe fruit it is a complex, intense, pure, structured wine. (12 x 75 cl)

Chateau Sainte Michelle CANOE RIDGE Chardonnay Columbia Valley Washington State
Description: Chateau Ste. Michelle is Washington state's oldest and most acclaimed winery it is located in historic grounds near Seattle. Here the winery combines Old World winemaking tradition with New World innovation. The Vineyard is located in sandy soils with bits of cobblestone and have low water-holding capacity. This allows precise control of vine growth through drip irrigation and canopy management. An ideal site for Chardonnay, Chateau Ste. Michelle's vineyard at Canoe Ridge Estate lies on the north bank of the Columbia River. The site's proximity to the river protects it from temperature extremes, allowing uniform ripening and excellent colour development. Fermented for 14 days in new and one-year-old French oak barrels. Aged sur lie for ten months to integrate the fruit and oak flavours and provide a rich mouthfeel. Malolactic fermentation also took place to add softness, balance and depth. This Chardonnay is sleek and elegant showing inviting aromas of lemon meringue, apple pie, vanilla and nutmeg complemented by a long, refined, crisp finish. (6 x 75 cl)
