Description: W. Burmester was founded in 1750. Historically they bought their young wine from prime vineyards in the Upper Douro from contracted growers. In December 1991 they made a very important purchase of a 120 hectare property in the heart of the upper Douro, Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, which has consolidated their reputation as serious Port producers and enabled them to offer their first single quinta Port in the great vintage of 1992. The Amorim family who success in the Portuguese cork industry has now purchased Burmester. It has brought new investment coupled with allowing Burmester to remain 100% under Portuguese ownership.
