Luna Vineyards Barrel Fermented Pinot Grigio Napa County California Description: In 1995, two seasoned wine veterans shared a vision for a distinctive Napa Valley winery that would produce wines in the artisan fashion of the Old World Masters. George Vare and Mike Moone were major influencers in the industry when they decided to launch Luna Vineyards. Together, they selected a prime piece of property at the southernmost end of the Silverado Trail and set about to transform it into a landmark winery. President Mary Ann Tsai heads a dedicated team in crafting Napa Valley wines of intricate character and exquisite taste, using techniques such as co-fermentation and natural yeasts to achieve distinctive results. Luna has achieved critical acclaim and is quickly becoming known for producing wines whose timeless attributes evoke a lifestyle of refined taste and sophistication. Reminiscent of the finest Pinot Grigios of France and Italy, the 2004 Luna Pinot Grigio is a delicate wine with beautiful natural acidity. The winemaking team worked closely with small vineyards in Napa ensuring our high standards are met from vineyards inCarneros, Napa, and other cool areas in Northern California. After 7 months in barrel the wine is showing a delicate balance of fig, peach, rose petals and ripe melon on the nose. The mouth has heady minerality with obvious toasted bread with layers of spices of cinnamon and nutmeg. The use of the French Oak is apparent in its ability to hold the wine up without overpowering the delicateness of the wine. The finish folds seamlessly into persistent fig and wet stone. Sweet, high-toned aromas of dusty cherry, sappy blackberry and leather. Supple, dense and round, with a terrific core of blackberry and spices, with the wine's oak component in the deep background. Offers excellent grip without being at all hard or rigid. At once pliant and serious, with a satisfyingly fleshy, ripe finish. In sap and texture, this struck me as rather like a merlot/cabernet franc blend.' Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £260.22

Terre da Vino LA LUNA e I FALO Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOC Piemonte
Description: Established in 1980, Terre da Vino is an association of vineyard owners from DOC and DOCG estates in Piedmont. With 2,500 wine growers it cultivates more than 4,000 hectares organised into 14 Wine Cooperatives, located in the classic area of production. With a new modern winery and a focus on quality production from the vineyard to the bottle this is an exciting time for Terre da Vino. The grapes come from the classic Barbera area in the comuni of Nizza Monferrato, Agliano Terme, and Clamandrana, all in the province of Asti. This wine is blended from vineyards with slightly different soils and microclimates so that the final wine will offer a better balance between structural solidity and bouquet complexity. The vineyards utilised a total of 60 hectares , and are part of the company's 'Superbarbera' project where the Terre da Vino viticulturists rigerously select vineyard that have low yields and a commitment to quality. Vinification is traditional, with a 15-20 day maceration on the skins and a 28-30oC fermentation, followed quickly by the onset of malolactic. The wine then matures for about 12 months in small oak, about 1/3 new; here, the wine, already impressively structured, acquires a multi-layered depth of flavour and character, evolving into a richly-nuanced Barbera of grace and expressiveness. This wine is a ruby-edge purple with a rich and deep bouquet showing a complex balance of violet, liquorice, and vanilla notes. The palate is crisp and dry, with a subtly-veined background of vanilla and wild berries, which carry through to its lingering finish. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £93.47
