Chateau Lamothe Bergeron Cru Bourgeois Haut-Medoc
Description: Chateau Lamothe Bergeron owes part of its name and reputation to the prestigious 18th century agronomist, Jacques de Bergeron. He inherited from his father the estate of Lamothe an ancient name given to the medieval manor of Cussac, the chateau of which was built in the late 16th century and then extended. Lamothe stayed in the Bergeron family unitkl the late 1850's. The estate was eventually purchased by Mestrezat and Domaines in the 1980's, who then undertook a wholesale reorganisation of vineyards and winery. The quality of this Château's wines owes a lot to expert vineyard management. A full refurbishment of the cellars occurred in the 1980's, accomodating a new sorting table, as well as temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for the fermentation and barrel-ageing cellar. The wine is a blend of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 20% Carmenere and 15% Malbec, while it is aged in oak for 16-21 months with 25% new barrels every year. Classic in style with a rustic character it is already drinking well now. (12 x 75 cl)
