Dry Creek Vineyards HERITAGE CLONE Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley California
Description: Dry Creek Vineyard was the first new winery to be established in the Dry Creek Valley since the days of Prohibition, when David Stare arrived in 1972. Today, Dry Creek Vineyard wines are easy to recognise due to the spirited yacht paintings that appear on the label of each bottle. David Stare's pioneering vision launched a new era of premium wine production in the Dry Creek Valley. Inspired by his travels throughout the traditional wine regions of France and Germany, Dave's focus was ever on quality. To persue this focus, small batch winemaking has been adopted because individual-lot winemaking promotes increased knowledge about how to manage each vineyard while offering maximum blending options and enhanced quality control. Dry Creek Vineyard insists on crafting each lot of wine separately with each vineyard lot crushed, fermented, and barrel aged separately. Approximately 75-100 different wines are produced each vintage, where fining is the exception, not the rule. Zinfandel Heritage Clone is the product of experimentation with budwood from a pre-Prohibition era vineyard. The result is a rustic, traditional style of Zinfandel, with ripe berry aromas and flavours bolstered by earthy, dusty notes. It is well structured with a balanced vanilla oak finish. Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin YELLOW LABEL Brut Non Vintage Champagne
Description: Ultimately, the reputation of a great Champagne house is based in its skill in blending a consistently fine flagship wine, rather than the vintage Champagnes, which follow exceptional weather. In Champagne, the style of a House is always more significant than the style of a single year, so the re-known of Veuve Clicquot is measured by the ongoing performance of Yellow Label. It is the sturdiness of Pinot Noir, which gives the Yellow Label its classical structure, with a touch of Pinot Meunier to add roundness. Chardonnay brings a certain elegance and finesse, essential for the harmony and balance of the wine. Grapes from as many as 60 different vineyards go to the blending of Yellow Label. Traditionally, the proportion of each grape variety used is 55% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Meunier and 30% Chardonnay. These figures vary slightly from year to year according to conditions. The blender has to achieve the total consistency of taste, colour and bouquet which makes Yellow Label so immediately recognisable, so utterly reliable. He will draw on priceless Reserve wines for the blend: from 25% to 35%, sometimes 40%. Each of these older wines, perhaps 8 years old, is kept separately to preserve the unique qualities of the vineyard and the vintage. First, Yellow Label looks beautiful: golden yellow, with a foaming necklace of tiny bubbles. Next, it is so pleasing to the nose; initially reminiscent of white fruits and raisins, then of vanilla, and later of biscuits. Note the fine balance between the younger, 'fruity' wines and the older 'toasty' wines, which made up the final assembly. The first sip delivers all the freshness and forcefulness so typical of Yellow Label, with a symphony of fruit taste following on. Here is a true member of the Brut family: powerful, well structured, admirably vinous. The lingering aromas echo and re-echo, with each fruit or spice note distinct. Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label manages to reconcile two opposing factors (3 x 1.5 Litres) Price: £207.72

Wolf Blass GOLD LABEL Riesling South Australia
Description: The Gold Label Riesling is the ultimate expression of Australia’s finest Riesling regions. Soft straw and green colours are present in the glass. The nose displays aromas of lemon and lime with a hint of passionfruit. Intense citrus and floral flavours are evident on the well- balanced palate. VITICULTURE This award- winning label combines fruit with steely character from the cooler climate Eden Valley with aromatic fruit from the warmer Clare Valley. WINEMAKING After harvesting individual parcels during the cool of the night to maintain fruit freshness the grapes were gently pressed, transferred to stainless steel and then cold settled. After settling carefully controlled fermentation was initiated to ensure the Riesling fruit characters were fully captured. Screwcaps were used to retain freshness and preserve the characters of the wine. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £67.89
