Michel Rolland and Jean-Michel Arcaute invited 5 other investors to join them in developing wines from Argentina and the 2002 vintage is the first to be released. Using the combined expertise of the partners, all of whom are in the wine business has produced a bright purple/ruby coloured blended wine with 40% Malbec, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 20% Shyrah. This wine has a rather animally nose, quite Rhone-like with notes of crushed blacked pepper and melted tar, while the palate is full-bodied soft entry and a spicy mid-palate. Quite rustic and loose at the seams the oak dominates the wine for a great tobacco finish. (6 x 1.5 Litres)

Bodegas Valentin Bianchi PARTICULAR Cabernet Sauvignon San Rafael Argentina Description: The Particular wines are made from grapes selected from the best and oldest vineyards owned by Valentin Bianchi in San Rafael. This ‘Particular’ Cabernet Sauvignon has a good intensity, with deep colour and attractive perfumes of red fruits, particularly blackcurrant and plums. Full-bodied on the palate, with ripe tannins rounded out by the addition of the plummy Merlot and Syrah , this wine has nicely balanced oak and fruit, with a long finish. The Bianchi family winery was founded in 1928 by Italian immigrant Valentin Bianchi and now covers 350 hectares of vineyard. It is run by the third generation, headed by Enzo Bianchi. Until recently a sleeping giant that was dependent largely on the domestic market, they have undergone a gradual transformation and modernisation in the past few years. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £128.64

Achaval Ferrer QUIMERA Mendoza Argentina Description: This tiny producer has 12 acres of ancient, ungrafted, picturesque, low-yield vineyards in three diverse, but neighbouring regions, growing Cabernet Sauvignon in Medrano, Merlot in Tupungato, and Malbec in La Consulta. From the outset, there was a very specific vision at this pocket-sized establishment: the typical yields are around 1 kilo per plant, and the aim is to produce spectacular quality in bite-sized amounts. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot and the blend occurs before racking into barrels, of which 40% are new . The 2001 vintage Quimera is a very deep cherry red colour with aromas of plum, blackberry and chocolate with hints of wet earth and peat. The concentrated but very balanced palate has velvety smooth tannins and a long, velvety and mineral finish. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £128.17
