Style: Powerful Reds
Description: The Rivetti family story begins in the 1890s, when Giovanni Rivetti, grandfather of the three Rivetti brothers, Carlo, Bruno and Giorgio, left Piedmont for Argentina. Like many Italians of that time, he dreamed of returning rich and a powerful man, perhaps even one day able to make a great wine in his homeland. He never did, though his son, Giuseppe did. Pin married Lidia, bought vineyards and began to make wine. In 1977 the family took up residence at La Spinetta in Castagnole Lanze and still run the estate today. The Nebbiolo vines aged between 35 to 45 years old from an 8 hectare vineyard have produced an intense vibrant ruby red coloured wine. The warm and rich bouquet is showing the elegance of Nebbiolo with scents of ripe red fruits and spices while the well balanced wood also has influence. The palate is round, distinct, powerful, but with a long, fine fruit finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Terre da Vino PAESI TUOI Barolo DOCG
Description: Established in 1980, Terre da Vino is an association of vineyard owners from DOC and DOCG estates in Piedmont. With 2,500 wine growers it cultivates more than 4,000 hectares organised into 14 Wine Co-operatives, located in the classic area of production. With a new modern winery and a focus on quality production from the vineyard to the bottle this is an exciting time for Terre da Vino. With a rich historical tradition, the 'Paesi Tuoi' Barolo is the product of a skilful blend of carefully selected lots from two distinct areas. The Helvetian soils of Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga and Monforte produce Barolos of great character and structure, while the Tortonian terrain of Barolo, La Morra and Verduno yields more elegant and fragrant wines. Vinification adheres strictly both to traditional procedures and to the official regulations for Barolo. A 20-25-day fermentation at ca. 30oC guarantees adequate tannin and extraction for the formation of a complex and cellar-worthy structure. The wine then goes to large oak barrels where it matures for at least two years, followed by another year in glass to achieve perfect balance. It is ready to leave the cellars four years after its harvest date and it can be enjoyed at that point or it can be given an additional 10-15 years' cellaring. Deep garnet red coloured wine acquiring orangish tints after some years' bottle-ageing. The bouquet is voluptuous rich, warm and generous, with complex scents of spices, liquorice, and dried violets. This Barolo is dry, with extremely full flavours, and well-integrated tannins that serve to accentuate the wine's classic qualities. (6 x 75 cl)

Terre da Vino IL DIAVOLO SULLE COLLINE Barolo
Description: Established in 1980, Terre da Vino is an association of vineyard owners from DOC and DOCG estates in Piedmont. With 2,500 wine growers it cultivates more than 4,000 hectares organised into 14 Wine Co-operatives, located in the classic area of production. With a new modern winery and a focus on quality production from the vineyard to the bottle this is an exciting time for Terre da Vino. Barolo Chinato debuted in Piedmont at the end of the 19th century and quickly became popular for its reputation as a medicinal wine. The recipe followed for this wine calls for a natural infusion of China Calissaja bark, rhubarb root, and about ten other aromatic herbs. Il Diavolo sulle Colline was named after the book by Cesare Pavese and was chosen to represent the wine's magnificent sensory complexity, power, aromatic pleasures, as well as its profound relationship to the land from which it springs. The Barolo base wine for the 'Il Diavolo sulle Colline' Chinato is produced from grapes of the comuni Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba, and Monforte d'Alba, which yield Barolos of pronounced character and structure, to which are added others from the areas of Barolo, La Morra and Verduno, which give wines greater fragrance and elegance. This wine is a deep garnet red colour with a bouquet that is full, rich, heady, and opulent, exuding spices and aromatic herbs. The palate is sweet, full-bodied, velvet-smooth and pleasantly bitterish in the finish. Available in half bottles. (6 x 37.5 cl)

Langavini Barolo DOCG
Description: A garnet red coloured wine with hints of orange from the oak ageing can be seen. Ethereal bouquet that is appealingly complex and intense, with the passing of time it is rounded off to perfection by the characteristic vanilla overtones of top quality wood. Full-bodied, complex and dry, the well-balanced tannins are rich and smooth through to the enjoyable finish. The name may be recent, but the company is 81 years old, having been set up in 1924 by Domenico Alessandria, a grower in Santa Maria di La Morra, to sell the Barolo, Barbera and Dolcetto he produced and bottled. When his son, Giovanni, took over the running of the business, it continued to bear the Alessandria family name. Then in 1990 Giovanni's daughter, Graziella, decided with her husband Maurizio to transform the company to bring it more in line with the needs of the contemporary market, and it came to be called "Langavini" as an expression of their love for the wines of the Langa. Andrea Oberto BAROLO DOCG Vigneto Albarella
Description: Elegant cru from the Vantrino Albarella vineyard. Andrea Oberto owns 8 hectares of perfectly exposed vineyards in the commune of La Morra . He uses organic farming methods with very hard pruning in winter and bunch thinning in the summer to reduce yields to no more than 5 or 6 bunches per vine in good vintages and 3 or 4 bunches in less good years. This equals just over 1 bottle of wine per plant in a good vintage. Oberto’s adoption of avant garde winemaking techniques and maturation exclusively in French oak means that all his wines have great elegance, suppleness and precision of fruit flavours. (12 x 75 cl)

Giacomo Ascheri BRICCO e COSTE Barolo Piemonte
Description: The Giacomo Ascheri Cellars originated in La Morra: in that area, where a place called “Ascheri” still exists, in the early 19th century the first vines were planted and the first wines produced. In 1880 the winery was moved from La Morra to Bra, where it is still situated today. In a world where wines are generally produced with the same grapes, the same technology, the same wood for ageing and above all the same consultants, Ascheri's aim is to obtain a wine which is the expression of the vineyard it comes from, the grapes it was made of, and above all Giacomo Ascheri own ideas. In order to achieve this, Giacomo Ascheri have chosen a natural approach, with a moderate use of technology, without changing the nature of the wine with special procedures. They have attached new importance to old oak barrel ageing making choices entirely by ourselves. Produced in the Sorano vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba with South/South West facing slopes and an altitude which ranges from 280 to 350 m above sea level. The vineyards in the Sorano Estate are planted with Nebbiolo and Dolcetto vines, that produce wines of outstanding richness. This 100% Nebbiolo is hand harvested in mid October and aged 6 months in stainless Steel tanks followed by 28 months in Slavonian oak 60% old, 40% new and a further 10 months in the bottle. Bright garnet red colour this Ascheri has a complex bouquet with a small fruits scent, elegant and with a hint of mint. Full palate, powerful and balanced wine it is harmonious and exceptionally long-lived, a remarkably classy wine, extraordinarily rich and complex that is reflected in the finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Marcarini LA SERRA La Morra Barolo Piedmont
Description: La Serra, or rather the other side of the Marcarini Barolo production, comes from a historic area of ancient origin whose soil, lacking organic substances but rich in mineral salts and microelements, is capable of giving wines good colour, structure, and flavourful but never excessive tannins. The particular microclimate is characterised by a slight ventilation with the circulation of fresh and dry air. The ripening occurs a bit later than in the Brunate area, resulting in very elegant and apparently less structured wines, but always generous and rich with intense, ethereal bouquets. (12 x 75 cl)
