Description: The grapes were hand harvested in the last three weeks of September from our 335-acre Carneros estate vineyard. Due to the region's meager soils and cooling afternoon winds, Carneros has become synonymous with the production of superb Chardonnay. With a warm growing season and a cool fall, the 2001 vintage will be remembered for its fast pace and an ideal, cool finish that yielded perfectly ripe, aromatic wines. This Chardonnay defies convention, blending elements of richness, bright fruit and substantial natural acidity into one splendid wine. DESCRIPTION Ripe pineapple and mango aromas are intermingled with citrus blossom and toffee elements in the bouquet. Explosive tropical, citrus and toast flavors are enveloped in a textural richness, which is beautifully offset by the wine's ample acidity. WINEMAKING • 100% Estate fruit • Whole cluster pressed to minimize extraction of bitter compounds • 100% barrel fermented • Partial malolactic fermentation balances the wine and contributes richness and complexity to the blend, while maintaining lively natural acidity • Battonage was performed every three weeks for six months to contribute richness to the palate (6 x 75 cl)

Description: In 1981 we planted some Chardonnay vines in a single vineyard of our estate in Treiso, replacing an old vineyard of Barbaresco. Since 1985 we produce with these Chardonnay grapes a limited quantity of barrel fermented Chardonnay called Piodilei. We wanted to keep the quantity of this wine very small and in the meantime we wish to give the chance to a wider number of consumers to enjoy our Chardonnay. In September 1993 we decided to ferment in stainless-steel tanks a part of our Chardonnay: the results was a fresh and vibrant wine with evident hints of ripe fruits. After some experiments we noted that adding to this wine a 25% of the same Chardonnay fermented and aged in new oak barrels, we reached an interesting wine spicy taste and persistent after-taste. So that we decided to create a new Chardonnay, with more pronounced fruity character but slightly lighter style. L'Altro in italian means (12 x 75 cl)

VINEYARD: Selected Chardonnay vineyards in the Robertson area and the Viognier hails from Ladismith in the Klein Karoo. CELLAR TREATMENT: The two varieties were fermented separately. A small percentage of Chardonnay was fermented in staved stainless steel tanks to generate an added dimension of richness. The balance of the Chardonnay and all of the Viognier was barrel fermented in new and 2 nd fill French oak barrels. No malolactic fermentation took place.
