Back in the 1970s John was one of the first farmers to plant vines in Marlborough and a bit later on Brent became one of the first New Zealanders to graduate from Adelaide’s Roseworthy College – where coincidentally, he was a roommate of d’Arenberg’s Chester Osborn! Returning to Marlborough, Brent founded Wither Hills using his father’s fruit and quickly built a formidable reputation for his wines. Today Wither Hills are regarded as benchmark producers for Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and it is to Brett’s enormous credit that he resists the temptation to introduce a reserve’ range, preferring to concentrate on just making the best possible wine he can every year.
