Description: Seven gentlemen, on august 23, 1933, set an appointment in the offices of Francesco Betteloni, notary public, to sign the deed giving birth to the Cantina Sociale Valpolicella. Today, the Cantina Valpolicella directs and coordinates the production of approximately 200 grape-growers with vineyards covering a total of 450 hectares. All these are located in the classic Valpolicella hillside zone. All have the same dedication and passion as the original founders. They work together and in their mutual interests to turn member producer's grapes into high quality wines, performing activities that improve winemaking and grape-growing knowledge and culture. The vineyards are situated on about 450 hectares in the classical Valpolicella Hills area Northwest of Verona, which are mostly concentrated in the town of Negrar. The most used system of cultivation is the traditional Pergola system, with about 2,500-3,000 plants per hectare, while the average age of the vines is 20 years. The cultivation of the vineyard has among its primary objectives the maximum possible degree of respect for nature: for this reason, biological techniques are used, and pesticides are used as little as possible. The harvest is done entirely by hand, with many selections for special wines, such as the Amarone, produced from single vineyards to exalt its characteristics. For this Soave the Garganega and Trebbiano grapes are used as prescribed by production regulations, with a small quantity of Chardonnay. Winemaking is traditional with soft pressing and skinless fermentation. Light refining follows in steel and then stabilisation and bottling. This has produced a straw yellow coloured wine, the palate is zesty and harmonious taking you through to a long finish with plenty of elegance. (6 x 75 cl)

Cantina Negrar RECIOTO della Valpolicella Classico DOC
Description: Seven gentlemen, on august 23, 1933, set an appointment in the offices of Francesco Betteloni, notary public, to sign the deed giving birth to the Cantina Sociale Valpolicella. Today, the Cantina Valpolicella directs and coordinates the production of approximately 200 grape-growers with vineyards covering a total of 450 hectares. The cultivation of the vineyard has among its primary objectives the maximum possible degree of respect for nature: for this reason, biological techniques are used, and pesticides are used as little as possible. A blend of Corvina and Rondinella this wine is made from grapes located in the heart of the classic Valpolicella zone on the Negrar hills, between 200 and 350 metres above sea level, and is made up of terrains of various origins, from calcareous to loamy, from volcanic to alluvial. The harvest is done entirely by hand, with many selections for special wines, such as the Amarone, produced from single vineyards to exalt its characteristics. The selected grapes are dried and vinification takes place at the end of January. The fermentation progresses slowly, thanks to low winter temperatures, until it is blocked by light decanting and filtering, to maintain a discreet amount of sugars and obtain a sweet wine. Dark ruby red coloured wine with an intense bouquet of wild cherry fruit, spice, choccolate and a seemingly endless succession of nuances. The palate is an astonishing combination of unusual structure and sweetness with unexpected suppleness and drinkability. Available in 50cl bottles. (6 x 50 cl)

Masi CAMPOLONGO di TORBE Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Veneto
Description: DESCRIPTION OF THE WINE Campolongo di Torbe is the most elegant of Masi’s Amarone crus. It is characterized by a rounded almondy flavour and by great intensity and balance. The choice of this vineyard is based not only on many years of technical experimentation at the Masi winery, but also on a very important historical document that indicates Mazzano and Torbe vineyards as the best in the valley for the production of this high-quality wine. In fact, with a contract dated 1194 , the monks of San Zeno Monastery, landowners of the entire Negrar Valley, leased the land to a certain Musio di Panego for a period of 29 years. The rent had to be paid with a certain quantity of grapes produced in the best area of the fiefdom, indicated as the Mazzano vineyards. If the vineyards yielded a poor crop because of hail, or other reasons, grapes had to be harvested at Capavo. This denomination is no longer in use but it corresponds to the upper hillside area of Torbe, where the vineyards of Campolongo di Torbe are now located. (6 x 75 cl)

Description: DESCRIPTION OF THE WINE The choice of these vineyards is based not only on many years of technical experimentation at the Masi winery, but also on a very important historical document that indicates the Mazzano and Torbe vineyards as the best in the Negrar valley for the production of Amarone. In fact, in a contract dated 1194 , the monks of San Zeno Monastery, landowners of the entire Negrar Valley, leased the land to a certain Musio di Panego for a period of 29 years, and the rent had to be paid with a certain quantity of grapes produced in the best area of the fiefdom, indicated as the Mazzano vineyards. If the vineyards had yielded a poor crop because of hail, or for any other reason, the contract stipulated that grapes had to be harvested at Capavo. This denomination is no longer in use but it corresponds to the upper hillside area of Torbe, where we now find the Campolongo di Torbe vineyards. Mazzano was described by Sheldon and Pauline Wasserman as the Amarone which “sets the standard by which we judge the others” and Jancis Robinson in her “Vintage Timecharts” evaluated this wine as one of only four Italian wines to be included in the best 46 wines of the world. Mazzano is an austere and majestic wine, a true Amarone designed from its conception to be a great red wine and not just a lesser, drier style of Recioto. Mazzano is among the very few Amarones which can benefit from aging in small barrels. (6 x 75 cl)

Guerrieri Rizzardi CALCAROLE Amarone Valpolicella Classico Veneto

The grapes are selected from among the vines of the rocky and stony hill of Calcarole rising above the Villa di Rovereti in heart of Negrar in the Valpolicella Classica area. This careful choice of grapes took place in the middle of September. The wine has an intense bouquet and is an ideal accompaniment to major dishes and also to end-of-dinner cheeses. The ideal serving temperature is around 20ºC, after a few hours of decanting. The wine is aged for at least three years in oak barrels and fined for six to twelve months in the bottle. Guerrieri Rizzardi POJEGA Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso Veneto
Description: In 1796 Conte Antonio Rizzardi created the famous garden and green theatre of Pojega, set in the midst of the vineyards which surrounded his villa in Negrar di Valpolicella. Now, just as then, the wine coming from the cultivation at Villa Rizzardi of Pojega is considered a special reserve of the house. The grapes come from a vines selection of more than 25 years old. The wine process involves a secondary fermentation technique called ripasso. This traditional method consist in re-fermenting the wine in the already pressed skins of Amarone. The harvest took place in Pojega in the fist ten days of October. The final product is generous in perfumes that, in the best years, remind especially an intense note of truffles bouquet. Ideal tasting temperature: from 16 to 18ºC. Limited and numbered production. (6 x 75 cl)
