Description: This wine shows aromas of wild cherries and cedar on the nose, and is well structured on the palate, with good acidity, fine tannins and very long length. It is more generous and forward than the classically structured 2001 vintage. Selvapiana has always been a special estate, as much for the people as for the quality of the wines. Federico Giuntini has improved on the remarkable legacy of quality bequeathed to him by Francesco Giuntini to bring Selvapiana into the first rank of Tuscan estates. The Sangiovese grapes for the 2003 Bucerchiale ChiantiRufina Riserva were grown in the 12.5 hectare Bucerchiale vineyard on the Selvapiana estate situated in ChiantiRufina zone northeast of Florence. The oldest part of this vineyard was planted in 1968, and the youngest in 1995. Southwest facing, it is the estate’s finest vineyard, and was first produced as a single vineyard wine in 1979. La Brancaia Chianti Classico DOCG
Description: Podere Brancaia has been owned by the Swiss couple Brigitte and Bruno Widmer since 1981. It is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area and in recent years Brancaia has won many international awards. The Brancaia estate encompasses the vineyards Brancaia and Poppi , at between 750 and 1300 feet above sea level. All vineyards have hillside location, looking south, southwest or southeast. This Chianti Classico is a blend of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot and less than 5,000 cases of this Sangiovese-based wine were made. The grapes are hand picked at Harvest and matured in 50% new and 50% old French oak casks 18 months plus 4 months in the bottle. The 2001 vintage is showing very ripe black fruit on the nose, with mineral and spice notes.
