Redbank’s badge, the Anvil, is a symbol of times gone by when the early settlers handcrafted their farming implements with the heat of the blazing forge and the strength of the anvil. This strength was apparent in the hard working migrants who established a thriving farming community in the rugged High Country of North East Victoria. Today a small, select 'family' of growers, some direct descendents of the original pioneers, produce premium fruit for the wines of Redbank. Vineyards that are lashed by blizzardly cold winter winds and buried in snow for part of the year emerge at harvest with grapes of the highest quality that enable the Redbank winemakers to produce superb cool climate wines. Fruit for the King Valley wines is harvested from vineyards which sit at nearly 800 metres above sea-level, covered in snow in winter and shrouded in cloud. The fruit was 100% hand picked and chilled, which minimised any unwanted colour or phenolics. Very gentle whole bunch pressing captured the delicate aromatics of the Pinot Gris. The juice was 70% cool fermented in stainless steel and 30% barrel fermented with some barrels undergoing malolactic fermentation for added complexity. The Sunday Morning Pinot Gris has a lifted delicate nose redolent with ripe pear, rose petals and spice. The palate is finely balanced with florals, clove spice and pear fruit, finishing with mouthwatering acidity and typical Pinot Gris texture. These King Valley wines were inspired by the history of Victoria. Long ago it was littered with long abandoned miners camps and long forgotten mine shafts that gave little to the battling prospector of the 1850s gold rush. During the same time notorious bushrangers roamed the high country of North East Victoria robbing the gold and mail coaches and stealing the valuable livestock of wealthy land owners. None was more famous than the legendary Ned Kelly. To some, Ned and his gang were folk heroes as their lightning hit and run skirmishes with the law, brilliant horsemanship and knowledge of the rugged bush continually frustrated the police and local authorities.

Redbank SUNDAY MORNING Pinot Gris King Valley Victoria Australia
Description: The rich history of Australia's gold mining era has inspired pioneering winemaker, Neill Robb, to create a collection of hand crafted individual wines from the quality wine growing regions of King and Yarra Valley, Victoria. Medium straw in colour, the nose offers honey, peach stone and mineral aromas with whiffs of gunsmoke and flint. This is a full-bodied wine showing balance between acid and fruit, a rounded mid-palate and a seductive stoney/apricot texture, finishing dry with long mineral and honey characters. The grapes are sourced from Cavedon's vineyard high in the King Valley of North-Eastern Victoria, where the cold nights, red volcanic soils and eastern aspect help ripening and retain fresh acidities. This classic Pinot Gris will complement many food styles such as antipasta and marinated octopus. (6 x 75 cl)

Redbank THE WIDOW JONES Viognier King Valley Victoria Australia
Description: Redbank’s badge, the Anvil, is a symbol of times gone by when the early settlers handcrafted their farming implements with the heat of the blazing forge and the strength of the anvil. The Viognier fruit was sourced from a single vineyard in the King Valley that boasts deep grey alluvial loams with good drainage leading to modest vigour, perfect for growing varieties such as Viognier. The grapes were hand picked and chilled to maximise aromatics before whole bunch pressing and running into barrel for wild fermentation. The wine was left in barrel on lees to maximise complexity until bottling. The Widow Jones Viognier is a pale gold colour with green tints. It exhibits a classical Viognier nose of white flowers, ripe apricots, fresh cream and ginger. The layered palate entwines ripe fruit with honey, sweet oranges and spice. A luscious wine that is rich but well balanced with zingy acid and great length. These King Valley wines were inspired by the history of Victoria. Long ago it was littered with long abandoned miners camps and long forgotten mine shafts that gave little to the battling prospector of the 1850s gold rush. Redbank THE FUGITIVE Cabernet Sauvignon King Valley Victoria Australia
Description: Redbank’s badge, the Anvil, is a symbol of times gone by when the early settlers handcrafted their farming implements with the heat of the blazing forge and the strength of the anvil. Fruit for the King Valley wines is harvested from vineyards which sit at nearly 800 metres above sea-level and the Fruit from high altitude vineyards has been blended with a small portion of warmer valley floor fruit. The cool climate fruit has fine grained tannins and aromatic fruit flavours, the warmer valley floor fruit adds richness and complexity before spending up to 32 months in French oak. Deep rich red in colour it has a lifted nose displaying distinctive varietal characteristics; blackcurrant and plums with touches of the eucalypt and mint so typical of the King Valley. The Fugitive Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich balanced wine, with elegant tannins and supple mouth feel. Distinctive Cabernet with cassis fruits, and spice the integrated French oak is showing charr and vanilla giving way to a long spicy finish. This King Valley wine was inspired by the history of Victori and in the 19 th Century, the Australian Bushranger roamed the harsh mountainous country of North East Victoria. These expert horsemen became fugitives from the police as they plundered mail coaches and rich gold trains and stole prize livestock from wealthy landowners. Stealing from the rich … and sometimes, giving to the poor. Legends were born with men like Ned Kelly, Captain Thunderbolt and other colourful characters leading authorities a merry dance.

Brown Brothers PATRICIA Cabernet Sauvignon King Valley Victoria
Description: This wine presents a saturated, red black colour with enormous richness and concentration. The nose demonstrates ripe characters of red currants and cassis combined with the subtleties of a wine handled with French oak. The palate is concentrated and rich with good length of flavour and well structured acid and firm tannins. The Patricia Cabernet Sauvignon has flavour intensity and fine tannin structure. Full physiological grape ripeness of this outstanding vintage season has highlighted varietal berry and cassis characters. French oak was used for its contribution to the tannin profile of the wine, and its subtle wood complexity. The Patricia Cabernet continues the success of two King Valley vineyards with 36% from Politini and 15% Ray vineyard fruit. Another outstanding vineyard site in North East Victoria is the Gentle Annie vineyard in the Dookie Hills, which has contributed 28%, providing mid-palate flesh and structure. A small percentage of fruit from the new Serengale vineyard in the Beechworth hills and a dash of Petit Verdot has achieved classic structure and balanced flavours. (6 x 75 cl)

Brown Brothers PATRICIA Sparkling Wine King Valley Victoria
Description: The wine shows a gentle straw colour with a fine persistent bead achieved from a long, slow secondary fermentation in the bottle under very cool conditions. The nose is lifted and elegant with lovely citrus overtones of lime and granny smith apples. The wine was made in strict adherence to traditional Méthode Champenoise techniques. Each parcel of fruit underwent malo-lactic fermentation before being blended and undergoing its second fermentation in bottle. It spent 5 years maturing on yeast lees after the second fermentation was completed. The palate is creamy and elegant with a crisp, dry finish and refreshing acidity. All fruit for the Patricia Pinot Chardonnay Brut is grown at our high altitude Whitlands vineyard where the climate is ideal for retaining acidity essential for this style of wine. This vineyard is located at 800m above sea level in the sub-alpine area at the top end of the King Valley. The wine is 68% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay and 12% Pinot Meunier. Low phenolic extraction is essential to the style, so the fruit is hand picked and whole bunch pressed in air bag presses. Only the first 500L per tonne is used, to minimise the phenolic content.
