Description: Just outside Portugal's most northerly town of Melgaco, and on the slopes above the Minho river, Antonio Cerdeira illegally planted 4 hectares of Alvarinho in 1974. Following the necessary legal 'adjustments', he was able to release his first wine in 1982, and is now regarded as not just a leading Alvarinho maestro, but also one of Portugal's top vignerons. Around the village of Alvaredo, the estate has grown to 10 hectares, making a heady 4000 cases per year. This wine is 100% Albarino, or as the grape is known locally Alvarinho, and is showing signs of classic Alvarinho with intense grapey, mango, and passionfruit aromas that introduce a complex array of firm flavours and fine acidity.
