Established in 1980, Terre da Vino is an association of vineyard owners from DOC and DOCG estates in Piedmont. With 2,500 wine growers it cultivates more than 4,000 hectares organised into 14 Wine Cooperatives, located in the classic area of production. With a new modern winery and a focus on quality production from the vineyard to the bottle this is an exciting time for Terre da Vino. The grapes come from the classic Barbera area in the comuni of Nizza Monferrato, Agliano Terme, and Clamandrana, all in the province of Asti. This wine is blended from vineyards with slightly different soils and microclimates so that the final wine will offer a better balance between structural solidity and bouquet complexity. The vineyards utilised a total of 60 hectares , and are part of the company's 'Superbarbera' project where the Terre da Vino viticulturists rigerously select vineyard that have low yields and a commitment to quality. Vinification is traditional, with a 15-20 day maceration on the skins and a 28-30oC fermentation, followed quickly by the onset of malolactic. The wine then matures for about 12 months in small oak, about 1/3 new; here, the wine, already impressively structured, acquires a multi-layered depth of flavour and character, evolving into a richly-nuanced Barbera of grace and expressiveness. This wine is a ruby-edge purple with a rich and deep bouquet showing a complex balance of violet, liquorice, and vanilla notes. The palate is crisp and dry, with a subtly-veined background of vanilla and wild berries, which carry through to its lingering finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Bava STRADIVARIO Barbera d'Asti DOC Piedmont
Description: Tasting An intense and rich wine, with a subtle vanilla scent, smooth and velvety on the palate, of great elegance. Not filtered. Vineyard/Territory From the Gura vineyard at Cocconato and subsequent replantations. Wine Production Wine making is characterized by delicate maceration, immediately followed by fining in new barriques for about 18 months. This name was not chosen by chance. The dedication to the well-known violin is due to the amusing, but tried and tested theory that particular sounds accompany particular tastes during concerts in the wine cellar.Stradivario is a Barbera d'Asti Superiore made from grapes harvested at Cocconato, on the calcareous hills of the high Asti region. Deeply rooted in this area for four generations, the BAVA family has kept the oldest vineyard for the production of these red grapes. They give a pure, long-lived Barbera, made in accordance with the international rules that reward strength and depth, without denying the territory identity. The grapes are harvested very ripe, and the yield is kept low in the vineyard. The wine making is characterized by a moderate contact with the air and delicate macerations, immediately followed by fining in new barriques. The outcome is a well-definite wine, extraordinarily rigorous, which recurs and keeps for years. Its outstanding elegance and superb aromatic precision come from its fining, masterfully merged with the Barbera character. (6 x 75 cl)

Araldica ALASIA Barbera d'Asti DOC Piemonte
Description: This is an attractive brick-red coloured wine, with aromas of ripe plums and spicy oak. It is medium-to-full-bodied, with notes of rich, sweet fruit, leather and tobacco. Soft acidity and fine tannins complete this appealing wine. Cellar for up to five years. Heading north and east from Alba, one enters the hill-rich DOC zone of Asti, south of the town of Asti itself. The grapes in Alasia Barbera d'Asti are cultivated in vineyards in The Monferrato hills in the South of the province of Asti. The vineyards are southwest facing and are at an altitude of between 250 and 400m above sea level. The vines have an average age of 30 years. Vine density is 4,000 (6 x 75 cl)

La Spinetta CA'DI PIAN Barbera D'Asti
Description: The Rivetti family story begins in the 1890s, when Giovanni Rivetti, grandfather of the three Rivetti brothers, Carlo, Bruno and Giorgio, left Piedmont for Argentina. Like many Italians of that time, he dreamed of returning rich and a powerful man, perhaps even one day able to make a great wine in his homeland. He never did, though his son, Giuseppe did. Pin married Lidia, bought vineyards and began to make wine. In 1977 the family took up residence at La Spinetta in Castagnole Lanze and still run the estate today. This Barbera has spent 12 months entirely in new, medium toasted French oak to produce a ruby red coloured wine with purple reflections. A very dense bouquet is showing scents of Marasca cherry, violets followed by plum. The palate fresh and fruity while the acidity is balanced by generous alcohol and mild tannins. (12 x 75 cl)
