100% Corvina Veronese grapes hand harvested in October on the Capitel Della Crosara Estate located in the Negrar commune of the Valpolicella Region. The grapes for this single cru wine were grown using traditional methods eliminating the use of herbicides and insecticides. A traditional red wine vinification method was used with the unusual Ripasso practice of fermentation sur lies of the Amarone. The wine was then aged 12 months in Slovenian Oak casks and a further 3 to 4 months in Nevers barriques. Deep clear ruby red colour. A bouquet with typical almond and cinnamon tones. A strong dry velvety taste with scents of cherry, musk, spices and wood. (6 x 75 cl)

Castello della Paneretta TORRE A DESTRA Riserva Chianti Classico DOCG
Description: Single vineyard. Selected from the cream of the vineyards this wine has a concentrated nose with a weight and richness one expects from the best Classico. Torre a Destra, literally ‘tower to the right’, is now the name of Castello della Paneretta’s Riserva wine. This estate has a high % of old sangiovese vines which give the wines an excellent structure. The 22ha. of vineyards are on the western edge of the Chianti Classico district and part of a larger estate of about 309ha, most of which is woodland. This wine is developing the growing trend in the region for optimising the local grapes, rather than using French imports, and then using modern vinification and ageing methods to produce the best wine possible. Ronco Della Betulle Cabernet Franc Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC
Description: Ronco delle Betulle nestles in the hilly eastern part of Friuli in a subzone called Rosazzo, an estate of approximately seventeen hectares, of which ten are under vine. The hills of Rosazzo benefit from a special microclimate determined by several geographical factors: its proximity to the sea and its altitude. The sea mitigates the climate, the elevation ensures that Rosazzo is well ventilated and well lit, whilst the vicinity of Mount Caterina protects the area from the northerly wind. Ivana Adami has a purist wine-making philosophy: that the essential character of the wine derives from the sun, the soil and the area and that typicity should be respected and preserved, never altered. Elegance and freshness are other watchwords; these are wines with keen acidity. The exceptional Cabernet Franc is from low-yielding vines from grapes harvested in mid-October. The skins are soaked for twelve days and there is a malolactic in wood. 40% of the wine is aged in large Slavonian barrels; 30% in second fill barriques and 10% in second fill tonneaux for sixteen months with ten months on the lees to gain aromatic complexity and mouthfeel. The wine is bottled without filtration. The aromatic fruit is bolted together by some serious acidity, but the wine has more personality and texture than a lot of 'string-beany' Cabernet Francs. Ronco Della Betulle Sauvignon Blanc Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC
Ivana Adami has a purist wine-making philosophy: that the essential character of the wine derives from the sun, the soil and the area and that typicity should be respected and preserved, never altered. Elegance and freshness are other watchwords; these are wines with keen acidity. The Sauvignon is grown on marl and sandstone and the grapes are hand-picked and placed in small crates, destemmed and left to soak for a few hours before controlled fermentation. It is then left on the lees with batonnage for four months and aged for a further six months in bottle before release. This care from the vineyard to the winery has produced a delicious white with good structure and acidity with pronounced aromas that recall sage, tomato leaves and yellow peppers. (6 x 75 cl)

Much of these come from the province of Verona which is famous for both Soave and Valpolicella. Perhaps the greatest wine of the region is the Amarone della Valpolicella, made from semi-dried grapes, giving a wine that is intense, long and rich with a high alcohol content. The region is also becoming well-known for its range of varietal wines, of which Cesari produce some excellent examples. (6 x 75 cl)

Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Description: Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico represents modern winemaking at its best and embodies Franco Allegrini’s long-expressed goal of combining purity with balance and the traditional power and intensity of Amarone. The wine is a wonderful fusion of concentrated dried cherry fruit and fine, spicy, toasty oak. It has great structure, complexity and elegance yet remains intense and powerful through to the end, with a hint of spiced sour cherries on the finish. Grapes for the Amarone are hand harvested during the second half of September and are allowed to dry naturally for about 100 days at ‘Terre di Fumane’, a state of the art drying centre where both temperature and humidity are controlled. By drying the grapes under these conditions, the development of botrytis is avoided, and the integrity of the fruit is preserved. During the drying period the grapes lose 45% of their original weight. Allegrini’s modern approach ensures that the volatility which often characterises lesser Amarone is never found in his. The quality of all the wines Allegrini produce from their 70 hectares of vineyard is impeccable. They have fruit, balance, intensity, length, elegance, tipicity and, above all, drinkability. In short, they are among the elite of the world’s best producers of red wines. The price of grapes for Amarone has shot up dramatically in the past few years due to demand far outstripping supply. As a result, we're now beginning to see these grape prices being reflected by higher prices for Amarone. We feel though that Allegrini’s Amarone still remains excellent value for a truly world class wine. (12 x 37.5 cl)

Allegrini PALAZZO della TORRE IGT Veneto
Description: A blend of 70% Corvina Veronese, 25% Rondinella and 5% Sangiovese, the Palazzo della Torre is a full-bodied, supple wine, made in an innovative ripasso style. The young wine is refermented with just-crushed dried grapes, rather than the leeched skins of Amarone, as was traditional. The dried grape character makes it a baby Amarone in style. Palazzo della Torre, a single vineyard wine, fled the safety of DOC to become IGT from the 1997 vintage. The Allegrinis were fed up with the failure of the law to catch up with the quality demands of the modern consumer. They had long ceased putting Molinara in the blend, yet the law had failed to change. Similarly, they had increased the level of Corvina beyond the permitted maximum in search of better depth in the wine. The quality of all the wines Allegrini produce from their 70 hectares of vineyard is impeccable. They have fruit, balance, intensity, length, elegance, tipicity and, above all, drinkability. In short, they are among the elite of the world’s best producers of red wines. (6 x 75 cl)
