Description: Vina Botalcura is the result of the passion of two men. Chilean partner, Juan Fernando Waidele, was seduced by the charm of the town of Botalcura and its environs, and this is where the idea to build a winery started. Juan Fernando then met enologist Philippe Debrus, who had a strong desire to return to a hands-on approach to winemaking, a style he learned in his native France when he was young. The winery is named after the town it is based in, Botalcura, near Talca, about 3 hours south of Santiago, in the coastal mountain range that forms the Maule Valley. Additionally, the word Botalcura means Large Stone in Mapundungun, the language of the Mapuche people of southern Chile. To complement the fruit grown on the company's own vineyards, grapes are sourced from the best areas of Chile, selecting those that fully express the intense, particular characteristics of the soils and climates from which they originate. Here great care is taken from hand picking the grapes only in the morning hours to keep fruit cool in the vine yard into the winery where 30% of the wine is aged six months in one and two year-old oak barrels before being bottled. A red ruby coloured wine with dark reflects and aomas of intense blackberry, plum, vanilla, nutmeg and oak. Gentle on the front palate, opening to full fruit flavours in the mouth-filling middle this wine is showing intense and well-integrated tannins that lend a solid structure, in harmony with the acidity. Medium-bodied and long on the finish this is a wine to savour. (12 x 75 cl)

Botalcura EL DELIRIO Reserva Syrah Malbec Chile
Description: Vina Botalcura is the result of the passion of two men. Chilean partner, Juan Fernando Waidele, was seduced by the charm of the town of Botalcura and its environs, and this is where the idea to build a winery started. Juan Fernando then met enologist Philippe Debrus, who had a strong desire to return to a hands-on approach to winemaking, a style he learned in his native France when he was young. Additionally, the word Botalcura means Large Stone in Mapundungun, the language of the Mapuche people of southern Chile. The gapes, sourced in Maule and the Central Valley, are hand-picked into half-ton bins and undergo cluster selection on the vine, with leaf removal. Here great care is taken and illustrated in the harvest taking place only in the morning hours to keep the fruit cool. Finally 30% of the wine spent six months in one and two year old oak barrels before release. This wine showcases the synergy between these two great varieties. The Syrah lends grip and structure, while the Malbec provides color, aromatic complexity, and voluptuous body. The result is a remarkably intense, fruity, and voluminous wine, while it has been barrel aged to complement the grape flavours. This blend of Syrah 65% and Malbec 35% is a medium-deep ruby red colour, with dark red cherry highlights. Displaying attractive aromas of ripe blackberry and black cherry, with notes of violets, oak, black pepper, nutmeg and vanilla the broad palate leads to a round, mouth-filling middle, with good soft tannins. Very elegant, with approachable balance, nice alcohol and acid balance. (12 x 75 cl)

This Carmenere is aged for 12 months in French and American oak, and are then bottle aged for a further year before they are released from the winery. Great care is taken from the vineyards through to the winery and this has produced a deep ruby red coloured wine with brilliant clarity and medium viscosity in the glass. Distinctive aromas of black cherry and cassis are complemented by notes of red bell pepper, sun-dried fruits, toast, coffee, and vanilla. While the deceptively open palate is direct on entry, it opens to reveal a rounded middle, supported by excellent acidity. Soft tannins from the middle palate through the firm, ever-so-slightly bitter finish adds length to the structural elements of this full-bodied Cabernet Franc. Finally, ageing in small oak barrels have contributed toasty complexity to the gamut of rich fruit flavours. (12 x 75 cl)

Botalcura LA PORFIA Grand Reserva Chardonnay Casablanca Valley Chile
Description: Vina Botalcura is the result of the passion of two men. Chilean partner, Juan Fernando Waidele, was seduced by the charm of the town of Botalcura and its environs, and this is where the idea to build a winery started. Juan Fernando then met enologist Philippe Debrus, who had a strong desire to return to a hands-on approach to winemaking, a style he learned in his native France when he was young. A part of the Vina Botalcura land was christened many years ago with the name La Porfia. This expression alludes to those who have tenacity and perseverance, qualities that fit perfectly with the spirit in which our Grand Reserve wines are made. The wines are aged for 1 year in French and American oak, and are then bottle aged for a further year before they are released from the winery. The grapes are grown in the coastal climate of the Casablanca Valley which features morning fog that burns off by midday, hot afternoons, and soft ocean breezes in the early evening, which produce very cool nights throughout the growing season. The marked difference in daytime and night time temperatures favours the development of the characteristic aromas of the Chardonnay grape. This has produced a medium-deep golden coloured wine with pale yellow highlights. Aromas of white peach are complemented by crisp pink grapefruit and a light tropical component, while soft notes of vanilla, honey and toasted almond can be noted. This grand reserve offers a beautiful expression of the variety grown in the cool Casablanca Valley, with its characteristic white peach and tropical aromas. Fermentation in French oak barrels integrated the notes of vanilla and toast while on the mouth, the rich, buttery texture is brightened by good acidity, resulting in well-balanced, elegant Chardonnay with a long, smooth finish.
